GOURMET TRAVELLER
48 hour city breaks
Our first stop sees us enjoying some golden Californian sunshine in Los Feliz, the walkable LA ‘city-within-a-city’ that’s blessed with an abundance of verdant parks crisscrossed with hiking and cycling trails. Having worked up an appetite, we explore a laid-back dining scene that’s as comfortable with bold, flavour packed Middle Eastern plates as it is with Italian classics – think thin-crust pizza in a local celeb haunt. Next we head to Vienna, birthplace of some of the world’s most influential thinkers and musicians where it’s a beautiful time of year for a walk alongside the glittering
Danube. After taking in an impressive array of baroque, gothic and art nouveau architecture, plus some contemporary masterpieces, warm up over a plate of seasonal torte and a cuppa in one of the city’s famed coffeehouses. Last but not least, we explore the colourful capital of Laos, Vientiane – where ornate Buddhist temples rub shoulders with elegant French inspired monuments. Don’t miss a visit to the Mekong’s riverside park, where an ‘open-to-all’ aerobics class takes place at 5 p.m. daily, before grazing on grilled pork skewers and bowls of sticky rice to your heart’s content at Ban
Anou Night Market.
