SUBURBAN VILLA

L-shaped wonder

-

Located in Kadawatha, this house sits on eight perches of a 38 perch plot of land and occupies a floor area of 310 square metres. While ensuring privacy and security, the open-plan design of the L-shaped building makes use of large open spaces to facilitate interaction between public areas of the house and garden outside. The structure makes for comfortable living by providing plenty of sunlight and air flow, which means there’s an abundance of cross ventilation. The living room, which is a double height space, is the largest area in the house; it opens out to the front and rear gardens through large timber glazed French windows. This space is visually linked to an elevated dining room, pantry and TV lounge on the first floor. A spacious veranda borders the ground floor while the upper floor accommodates two large balconies. The veranda and balconies extend the continuity of interior spaces with those of the exterior. This abode has a combination of gloss and matt floor tiling, specially textured walls and exposed rafter wooden ceilings. The exterior features a mix of timber, glass, rough-textured plaster and cement, which makes it ideal for Sri Lanka’s tropical climate.
