CHEVY ‘SUPER HUGGER
Anushan Selvarajah is very excited to meet a movie icon
From The Gumball Rally and Charlie’s Angels, as well as The Fast and the Furious franchise, and all the way up to the Transformer series to name a few, this Hollywood hot-rod has gained a place in the hearts of motor and movie enthusiasts across generations, and around the globe.
Produced between 1970 and ’81, the second generation Chevrolet Camaro was a major deviation from its predecessor despite possessing the same mechanical layout and engineering.
Dubbed the ‘Super Hugger’ for its low ground clearance, it looks, feels and growls like a muscle car – one that’s strong enough to take on any contenders despite the designers wanting it to be the ultimate driver’s car rather than a speed demon.
This second generation Camaro has had many variations with its final form coming out in 1981. The machine featured this month is one such variation that’s been refined over time thanks to the experience gained through racing its predecessor. It possesses advancements in steering, braking and balance, which contribute to making the Chevrolet Camaro ideal for a comfortable ride.
After a little over 3,500 cars with the 6-cylinder 4100 cc version were produced, Chevrolet modified it once more. This absolute beast of engineering with its dashing white stripe down the bonnet is a viable collector’s item in addition to providing a thrilling ride. It belongs to well-known classic car collector and racer Yevinda Amarasekara.
With its many successes on the racetrack, roads and silver screen, this Chevy will continue to be known, admired and desired for years to come.
