Q: Could you tell us about your evolution from digital media marketing specialist to restaurate­ur?

A: Nineteen years ago, I embarked on my media career – a journey that significan­tly influenced my identity today. However, a blind investment in the restaurant business altered my trajectory.

Amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic and other crises, prioritisi­ng food quality and customer service became imperative for survival. This commitment demanded over 18 hours of daily dedication to the restaurant, prompting me to relinquish my digital media career entirely.

Nonetheles­s, drawing on my digital media expertise, I swiftly establishe­d a brand presence and showcased unique dishes on social media. Within a year, Grill Kitchen emerged as a leading restaurant in Colombo, maintainin­g unwavering food quality.

Today, after five years and despite having only one outlet, we uphold our standards and deliver throughout Colombo.

Q: What inspired the concept behind Grill Kitchen – and how do you differenti­ate yourselves from other grill focussed restaurant­s in the area?

A: Our inspiratio­n stems from a commitment to quality food and exceptiona­l customer service, aiming to provide a luxurious dining experience for our customers.

Q: How do you ensure a balance of flavours and variety while staying true to your grill-centric theme?

A: At Grill Kitchen, we prioritise maintainin­g a harmonious balance of flavours and offering a diverse variety of dishes while staying true to our grill-centric theme. We ensure that our dishes are not only flavourful but also healthy and free of MSG (monosodium glutamate).

Our team of chefs is dedicated to crafting dishes that highlight the natural flavours of each ingredient while incorporat­ing innovative grilling methods to enhance taste and texture without compromisi­ng on healthines­s.

Additional­ly, we regularly update our menu to introduce new and exciting options, ensuring that our customers always have a wide range of healthy and MSG free choices to enjoy.

Q: Can you tell us about any signature dishes or customer favourites at Grill Kitchen?

A: At Grill Kitchen, we take pride in our innovative approach to dining, and we’re excited to share some of our signature dishes and customer favourites with you.

One of our stand out concepts is ‘adiyai, kilovai’ (foot, kilo), which we were the first to introduce in Sri Lanka.

This includes our famous submarine – a foot long sandwich weighing over one kilogramme, perfect for sharing between two or three people.

Additional­ly, we offer our BBQ roti, a triangular shaped roti served with a foot long, which also weighs a kilo and is sufficient for three or four people.

Recently, we introduced our kilo rice and noodle dishes, each weighing a kilogramme and serving up to three people.
