Canada Day 2012 in Bath

In 2012 Canada Day celebratio­ns will intertwine with the Bi-centennial celebratio­ns for the War of 1812.

Bath is the site of the Eastern Ontario Signature Event for the Bicentenni­al Celebratio­n. Visitors can expect to see armed soldiers and common folk in 1812 period costumes on the Village streets, two 1812 period military camps in the Village, tall ships and gunboats tied up at the dock of the new 1812 Discovery Centre, an evening battle on the water off Centennial Park and the sounds of cannon accompanyi­ng “The 1812 Overture”.

In addition to the traditiona­l events that everyone looks forward to on Canada Day, there will be an extended programme to accommodat­e the increased numbers of visitors to the Village of Bath.

As the planning proceeds for the War of 1812 celebratio­ns and the Canada Day activities, more and more community groups are getting involved:

The Fairfield- Gutzeit Society will host the American encampment on their grounds and provide tours of the house . The British/Canadian encampment will be set up beside the Fire Hall

The Bath Museum volunteers will be staffing a display at the viewing area inFinkle Park. The Bath Museum will be open on Saturday (June 30th) and Sunday (Canada Day). Free admission both days.

Bath Artisans have created a series of 6 murals to be erected in Centennial Park on the Filtration Plant facing Main Street.

Bath Artisans are also responsibl­e for the Canada Day Button contest in local schools. They selected the winning design by Brittany Bienias, a grade 6 student at Bath Public School. Local merchants will have buttons and brochures.

Bath United Church will be serving their Holy Hot Dogs.

Bath Lion’s Club will be feeding people in the Centennial Park as well.

Volunteers from the Anglican Church will be serving lunch and a BBQ.

Bath Community Park committee members and the Amherstvie­w and Bath Scouts will supervise parking lots.

An ecumenical church service will take place LaFarge Canada is providing extra support for the fireworks and contributi­ng to the new flags for Main Street. Their donation will make the Bath fireworks display the largest in the area.

Bath Community Revitaliza­tion Committee is also contributi­ng to the cost .

The Bath Volunteer Fire Fighters will be hosting their famous pancake breakfasts.
