There was plenty of excitement at this year’s Walawa Super Cross with large numbers of spectators being entertained by the skill and control of the drivers and riders when late morning rain changed the conditions of the track completely.
Ashan Silva, Pasindu Pieris, Upulwan Serasinghe and Brigadier Ravi Mayadunne thrilled the crowd with their skillful driving but it was Lt Col Duminda Jayasinghe who won the hearts of everyone for his grit in winning event number 18 for Diesel Turbo trucks and jeeps up to 5500cc, a six lap event. He drove his 2400cc Land Rover Defender for three laps after the tyre on his left front wheel was punctured and tore off in shreds, with him ending the race on a rim.
