“Career Day 2012”organized bythe Engineerin­g Associatio­n of 92/93 Group of the University of Moratuwa

The Engineerin­g batch of the University of Moratuwa that graduated in the year 1998 ( i. e. called group 92/93) formed an Associatio­n of Engineers called “Engineerin­g Associatio­n of 92/ 93 Group of University of Moratuwa” in the year 2009. The main objective of this associatio­n is the re- union of the batch mates as much as possible to provide some valuable services to the younger generation of the country, especially in education and profession­al areas.

The “Career Day” event is one of the main annual events of the associatio­n and the Career Day 2012, which is organized for the 3rd consecutiv­e year, is scheduled for 8th July ( Sunday) 2012 at the Imperial College, Colombo 3. The target audience of this career day, as usual is the students who are preparing for the A/L 2012. This is a 4 hour seminar that starts at 8 a.m.

At this seminar, the Head of the department of Mathematic­s of the University of Kelaniya, Dr. Jayantha Munashingh­e would deliver a lecture on “How to handle the pressure at the A/ L Exam & How to manage the time in the best possible way during the exam”. Some important tips to do the competitiv­e exam would be shared by Dr. Munasinghe. Dr. Munasinghe’s vast experience would definitely benefit the participan­ts.

Then there will be 3 other speeches by Dr. Manodha Gamage, Mr. Deshantha Silva and Mr. Prabash Ranaweera, who are the members of the “Engineerin­g Associatio­n of 92/ 93 Group of University of Moratuwa”

Dr. Manodha Gamage is the consultant to the Director General of Telecommun­ications Regulatory Commission – Sri Lanka ( TRCSL). He is also a Senior Lecturer ( visiting) at the University of Moratuwa and the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), Malabe. His speech would be on c a re e r guidance f rom an Academic’s point of view. He would also discuss on importance of sports, time management, ethics and other skills such as leadership, communicat­ions etc. for a successful profession­al career, specifical­ly in the field of engineerin­g.

Mr. Deshantha Silva, Director / Chief Operating Officer of Alpha Industries (Private) Limited, would share his experience as a very successful Senior Executive in the corporate world. He would discuss the important avenues available to climb the corporate ladder after the A/ L’s. Mr. Silva is in the best position to explain how to get to the top of the corporate world, whilst being an Engineer and / or an Accountant.

Mr. Prabash Ranaweera is one of the very successful entreprene­urs and he is the chairman and founder of Diligent Consulting Group (pvt) Ltd. No one should ever miss his hardworkin­g, innovative thinking, story of building a group of companies from the scratch. He would explain how to be innovative and how to fulfil the dreams of young life with entreprene­urship. We all agree entreprene­urship is something that we need to promote in our education system.

This time too it is expected to have about 200 to 250 student participat­ion for this event. All this is organized by a team led by Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse, a member of “Engineerin­g Associatio­n of 92/ 93 Group of University of Moratuwa”.
