Kingswood, Girls HS chess champs
Kingswood College Kandy with 67 points and Girls’ High School Kandy with 81 points emerged boys and girls overall champions respectively at the All-Island Schools Individual Chess Championships 2012. The meet took from June 15 to 17 at Christ Church College in Matale. The three- day tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Chess Association in association with Matale organising committee saw 800 boys and girls competing in five age groups in Under-12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and the first fifteen boys as well as fifteen girls from each age group are now eligible to contest at the ‘Super 30’ All-Island Schools Chess competition to be held shortly.
The best six - three boys and girls each selected from each of the five age groups will form the ‘Super 30’ players and they will represent Sri Lanka at the forthcoming Asian Schools Chess Championship scheduled to be held in the Philippines in October later this year. The winners and runners up were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals.
