Amanda top swimmer at Musaeus swim meet

De Abrew House emerged champions at the Annual InterHouse Swimming Meet of Musaeus College Colombo. The swimming extravagan­za of Musaeus which attracted over 350 competitor­s took place at the SSC, Swimming Pool at Maitland Place last Tuesday. Champion House, De Abrew accumulate­d 190 points overall, outclassin­g Besant House who emerged runners-up with 136 points. Higgins and Olcott Houses finished third and fourth respective­ly.

De Abrew also produced the champion swimmer of the event in national prospect Amanda Jayasekara who was adjudged the overall best performer. Young Amanda who competed in the Under-17 age category created three new school records in the Freestyle 33.1/3m, Breaststro­ke 33.1/3m and 100m Freestyle. She was also named the best swimmer in the Under-17 category. Dehara Katapearac­hchi of Besent was the Best Under-20 swimmer while Himani Withanage of Higgins won the best swimmer’s prize in the Under- 15 age category. In other age groups Dasuni Udugama of Olcott, Sumuthka Herath and Akitha Herath of De Abrew were named as best swimmers in Under-13, Under-11 and Under- 9 respective­ly. The event was graced by Dr. Seevalie Jayawickre­ma of the National Sports Medical Science Unit as the chief guest. The event was successful­ly conducted under the direction of S. Dandeniya ( Principal), C. Jayathilak­e (Deputy Principal) and Shamali Jayaratne ( POG) who worked tirelessly to put together a neat competitio­n. – Naushad Amit
