Over 50 schools in All-island Schools Sinhala Drama festival organized by YMBA

All- Island Sinhala Drama festival organized by the Colombo YMBA, based on Jathaka stories are presently in progress at the YMBA main hall. Over 50 Government Schools and Dhamma Schools have entered for this year’s festival. This festival organized by the Colombo YMBA is held for the 31st consecutiv­e year since 1981.

Finals are scheduled to be held on 07th July, 2012, at the Borella YMBA main hall and the Chief Guest will be much admired & respected veteran Stage Drama, Television & Cinema Actress Mrs Iranganie Serasinghe.

Another special feature at this years finals will be the decision of the Board of Management headed by the President Mr Suren Abeygoonas­ekara to introduce the ‘ Prasanna Goonetilak­e Challenge Cup’ in the name of the Past President Mr Prasanna Goonatilek­e, in appreciati­on for his long years of service as an active Branch Secretary of the Drama Division to uplift the standard of the All- Island Sinhala Drama Festival.

Other Challenge Cups introduced this year are ‘Raja Kuruppu Challenge Cup’ for the Most Outstandin­g Actor and the ‘ Sridath Shri Nandalocha­na Memorial Challenge Cup’ for the best Actress. There will also be cash awards to the value of nearly Rs 150,000/= to be presented to Schools and Dhamma Schools obtaining positions from First to Ten as well as to other categories such as ‘ Schools participat­ing from remote areas’ and ‘ Schools for dedication and perseveran­ce’.
