A successful Blood Donation Camp and Adventure Sports Meet!

The Youth of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association in collaboration with the Blood Bank organised a Blood Donation Camp on Friday, March 29, 2013. The camp was held at Girl Guides headquarters and a large number of donors gathered to the premises.

Doctors and nurses from the Blood Bank guided and advised the volunteer donors. Nearly 100 donors donated blood with the intention of saving another’s life while they were also given a certificate as a token of appreciation.

This camp helped create awareness among youth, on social responsibilities and much enthusiasm was shown by their participation for the same. Ms. Prarthana Liyanage, the Director Youth and her Committee Members who played a key role in organising this camp were happy with the final outcome being a huge success as close to 100 pints of blood were collected in a single day!

With the participation of Girl Guides and Leaders from the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Western Provinces, ‘The All Island Girl Guides Athletic and Adventure Sports Meet’ was held on April 6 and 7, 2013 at the Monaragala Pradeshiya Sabha grounds.

This sportsmeet was held with the assistance of Deputy Director of Education (Health and Physical Education) Mr. W. M. N. Bandara, while Plan Sri Lanka provided sponsorship for it.

Numerous adventurous and athletic games were held on these two fun filled days and among them were track races (100, 200, 4 x 100), Toddy Tapper, Balancing Bar and Rope climbing.

Girl Guides representing the Uva Province were adjudged Champions of the event while Western Province bagged the Runners Up award.
