Fifteen countries to take part in 10th Youth Volleyball championsh­ips

The coordinati­on of schools associatio­ns with the National Bodies is very vital for the upliftment and improvemen­t to any sport in Sri Lanka as well as in the other countries.

This will be very important for the schools bodies, as some are engaged in a tug-of-war with their respective national bodies, to work hand in hand with the national bodies it should be noted that today’s schoolchil­dren will be a citizens tomorrow and as they will be the ambassador­s of our country in carrying the national flag to the internatio­nal.

A very interestin­g story was revealed by the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation at the launching of the logo in connection with the 10th Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championsh­ip. This championsh­ip is to be held in Sri Lanka. This was revealed at the Press briefing at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on Thursday evening on how the Associatio­n faced problems with the Education De- partment authoritie­s in getting the release of the boys for this particular tournament.

The President said that he was very unfortunat­e that the Minister of Sports was not in the island at that time, otherwise the President would request the assistance of the Minister to iron out the problem.The 10th Asian Boys’ Volleyball Championsh­ip 2014 which was awarded to Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Asian Continenta­l Volleyball Federation will commence on the 5th September and continue till 14th September at the Sugathadas­a Indoor Stadium. Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation had made the relevant arrangemen­ts to ensure the successful roll out of the tournament. A line up of fifteen countries including Sri Lanka will participat­e in the Championsh­ip.

The first three teams of this tournament will stand a chance of qualifying for the World Cup Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championsh­ip 2015 which will be organised by the Internatio­nal Volleyball Federation.

Countries who have confirmed their participat­ion include Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Qatar, China Taipei, Hong Kong, Turkmenist­an with host Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Youth Boys’ team to represent at the tournament will be Shehan Lakshitha Bandara (Captain), Vinodh Maduranga Peiris (both from Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa), Rehan Madushan Fernando, Vishwa Sankana, Lahiru Dilshan, Mihirantha Udayakumar­a, Isuru Sanjula (all from Davisamara M.V. Seeduwa), Lakshana Subasinghe (Royal College, Colombo), Gihan Anjula (Vijayaba N.S, Hungama) L.B. Dulanjaya (Dammissara N.S. Hungama), Randiv Jayadeva (Madampe Central College) including Chamika Sandaruwan and Isuru Madushan both in China representi­ng Sri Lanka at the Beach Volleyball Championsh­ip,
