Screening camps for CKD in Anuradhapura
The Anuradhapura branch of the People's Leasing and Finance PLC in association with the Kidney Protection Foundation in Anuradhapura along with the officers of Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura recently conducted screening camps for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a severe disease prevalent in the Anuradhapura region.
The programme with the objective of creating awareness on CKD and identifying and referring patients to the medical clinic of the Nephrology Unit of the Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura, educated the community on CKD, its symptoms, causative factors, importance of early diagnosis and preventive measures.
Four community screening programmes within the Anuradhapura area have already been carried out with the patronage of People's Leasing and Finance PLC with over 80 patients suffering from CKD identified and referred to the clinic for further treatment.
A team of medical professionals voluntarily participated in every screening camp and the one you awareness programme followed by a discussion has helped the rural citizens to recognise the truths and falsehoods surrounding the disease and enabled the doctors to emphasize the importance if early identification.
In addition to medical aid and advice, the community were made aware of the importance of applying agro chemicals in prescribed dosages and ensuring that the chemicals does not come into contact with drinking water.
The initiative benefitted numerous locals who would be prevented from visiting hospitals due to the difficulties in transportation and their lifestyles.
