Ed. Min directs Exams Comm. to submit report on A/L Econ paper
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena is to submit a comprehensive report surrounding the controversy over the GCE (Advanced Level) Economics question paper.
Minister Gunawardena told the Education Times that he has directed Exams Commissioner W.M. Pushpakumara to compile the report which would cover four aspects regarding the question paper.
The move comes amidst allegations that some of the questions in the paper were erroneous.
Minister Gunawardena said they will look into allegations of errors within the question paper as well as the decision to change the panel preparing the exam paper having an impact on the exam, if any.
He said that the Commissioner will also investigate another serious allegation that last year’s A/L Economics paper had several questions duplicated from a UK examination question paper.
He said that, if questions have been taken from the London question papers, the country will also face copyright issues.
He said the report will also have recommendations on how to overcome such issues in the future.
Mr Gunawardena on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department that there was a conspiracy to demoralise students by challenging the credibility of examinations, and therefore, wanted the CID to investigate the matter.
