ENU-SIST launch BSc (Hons) programmes in Biomedical Science, Microbiology & Biotechnology
Scotland- based Edinburgh Napier University ( ENU) launched two new Graduate Degrees- BSc ( Hons) Biomedical Science and BSc ( Hons) Microbiology & Biotechnology, in collaboration with Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology ( SIST) here.
The launch took place at a reception hosted by British Deputy High Commissioner Laura Davies at Westminster House last Thursday.
Ms Davies addressing the event, said, “British education is held in high regard in Sri Lanka, and this collaboration is especially significant as options for internationally recognised qualifications in the areas of Health and Life Sciences are currently limited in Sri Lanka.”
Edinburgh Napier University’s Dean of the Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences, Iain McIntosh, said, “At Edinburgh Napier, we have a long history of successfully delivering our programmes with overseas educational partners, including in Hong Kong and Singapore, and I very much look forward to returning for the graduation of Edinburgh Napier students here
in Colombo.”
The partnership between the two institutions began in 2012, when SIST student Promila Jeyaraj, won the Designer Innovative Idea Award for designing a solar powered wheelchair and was sponsored by ENU to visit their campus.
Established in 1964, as Napier Technical College, ENU is known for industry- informed pro - grammes in the UK, China, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. ENU also has a highly qualified Faculty whose areas of research include Reproductive Health, diseases such as Crohn’s disease, Stroke and C a n c e r, Nanotechnolo g y, Infection Control through development and testing of novel therapeutics and biocides.
SIST, established in 2002, is a campus located in a 10,000 square foot facility in Colombo 4, and has four large state- of- the- art laboratories that facilitate students to explore and experiment in the fields of Molecular Biology, Tissue Culture, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Medical Biotechnology.
