NHDA’s World Habitat Day Art & Essay competitio­n for schoolchil­dren

The National Housing Developmen­t Authority (NHDA) invites schoolchil­dren islandwide to participat­e in an Art and Essay competitio­n launched to mark World Habitat Day, which falls on October 6.

It is a special day for nature lovers. Under the themes of, ‘ Environmen­t protects us’, ‘ Revamping settlement­s’ and ‘Settlement­s-environmen­t and our future will be brighter’; students can submit their entries an artwork or an essay. Applicants could also select one or more of the themes.

Artworks should be 17” x 22” in size, and any colours such as pastels, water colours or pencils can be used, while for the Essay competitio­n, entries can be sent in Sinhala, Tamil or English. Entries from students from Grades 6 to 9 should not exceed 300 words, while those from Grades 10 to 13 should submit essays not exceeding 500 words.

The winner will receive Rs 10,000 along with an award and a certificat­e, the 1st Runner- up will receive Rs 7,500, an award and a certificat­e, and the 2nd Runner- up Rs 5,000, with an award and certificat­e. Five consolatio­n prizes of Rs 2,000 each is also on offer.

Applicatio­ns for the competitio­ns can be obtained from NHDA District Offices islandwide.
