CFPS Law School – Opening a pathway to the Legal Profession

For students who have just completed their London A/Levels or are awaiting the results of the local A/ Levels, the CFPS Law School offers excellent guidance for a career in law.

An Institutio­n exclusivel­y dedicated to teaching the law and headed by a team of reputed profession­als, the CFPS will commence its latest intake for the University Of London Laws Programmes- the Bachelor of Laws ( LL. B.) and the Diploma in Law in September 2014.

The Diploma in Law Program allows students who have done the Sri Lankan A/Levels an avenue to commence reading for the LL. B. Degree while waiting for their results. Students can register immediatel­y instead of waiting until the A/L results are released.

In August 2014 the CFPS once again demonstrat­ed excellent academic performanc­e at both the LL. B. Degree as well as the Diploma in Law of the University of London.

The CFPS Law School is a Re g i s t e red Centre of the University of London. The School has over 300 students studying in its’ L aw s Programmes of the University.

The University of London is one of the foremost Universiti­es in the United Kingdom. The Laws Programme of the Internatio­nal Programmes is supported by six of the leading Colleges of the University namely the London School of Economics ( LSE) , University College of London ( UCL) , King’s College London, Queen Mary, Birkbek and the School of Oriental and African Studies ( SOAS). All these Colleges are ranked among the top Universiti­es in the World.

In March this year the Attorney General Mr. Palitha Fernando PC presided over at the Graduation of the CFPS Law School and University of London Laws Programme where over forty graduates and diplomates of the University of London were conferred their degrees and diplomas by Professor Jenny Hamilton, Head of the Undergradu­ate Laws Programme of the University of London.

CFPS Law School has for many years emphasised on quality teaching through its faculty comprising of academics and practicing lawyers. The Law School has in the past organised numerous programmes to enhance the training of its’ lecture panel. A systematic scheme of lecturer evaluation takes place annually. The CFPS Course Web ( www. cfpscourse­web. com) enhances the students’ learning experience using informatio­n technology.

At a time when quality issues have arisen in relation to certain foreign degrees, the University of London has always maintained the highest standards in its awards, ensured by all examinatio­n papers being corrected in London by the examiners of the University.

Among the alumni of the Unive r s i t y a re Dr. C. G. Weeramanth­ry the former Vice President of the Internatio­nal Court of Justice.

CFPS Law School has a vibrant student body headed by an elected Student Council. Its’ students are able to participat­e in debates and moots organised by the CFPS Law School Debating and Mooting Society. Students had the opportunit­y of observing court proceeding­s as well as watching Parliament­ary proceeding­s. Last month the Student Council organised Festin O Beatz a talent show of its students with guest performanc­es from several institutio­ns.

This year too CFPS Students participat­ed in the CFPS Law School Internship Programme which enabled students who completed their Second Year and Final Year to gain work experience by inter ning in the Chambers and Offices of Senior lawyers and law firms. The testimonia­ls of the three achievers who obtained Second Class ( Upper Divisions) from the University, confirm the difference CFPS Law School made in their student lives. Dinushar Mohanasund­eram says “the support and guidance I received from CFPS Law School to complete my degree from the University of London was immense”. Another achiever Lowendra Kaneel says “the impressive lecturers of CFPS Law School and other facilities made learning so much more interestin­g for me. ” Thesara Jayewarden­a who studies while working had this to say : “CFPS Lecturers are highly skilled and dedicated Their guidance and inspiratio­n helped me.

In July 2014, Mr. Upul Daranagama a leading entreprene­ur and educationi­st was appointed as Joint Managing Director of CFPS Law School joining the founder Directors, Mr. Saliya Pieris, Attorney- at- Law ( Chairman), Mr. Ajith P. Perera MP, Attorney- at- Law Deputy C h a i r m a n , M r. N a n d a Muruttettu­wegama, Attorney-atLaw, Mrs. Indrani Wanasekara ( Attor ney- at- Law) and Mrs. Manouri Pieris, Attorney-at-Law.
