Student satisfaction hits an all-time high!
In a recent, independent, satisfaction survey of students studying University of Greenwich’s degree programmes reachedan all-time high, with 86% of final year students saying they are fully satisfied with the quality of teaching on its campuses (13th August 2013).
This exceeds last year’s overall satisfaction rating of 85%, which set a new record for the university in 2012. Greenwich’s new result also exceeds the National Student Survey ( NSS) satisfaction score of 85%, which in itself is the highest rate in the nine years that the NSS has been running.
The independent poll asks final- year undergraduates to rate the quality of their higher education in eight main categories, ranging from teaching, assessment and feedback to academic support, lear ning resources and personal development.
The quality of teaching at Greenwich Campuses once again stood out in the NSS results. Nine out of ten students who took

part in the survey said that staff are good at explaining things. They also gave very high ratings to other aspects of the teaching, mostly agreeing that staff are enthusiastic about the subjects they are teaching, and that courses are intellectually stimulating.
The University of Greenwich’s ViceChancellor, Professor David Maguire, says: “The NSS results continue an excellent year for the university, where we have also risen sharply in major league tables, and is another indication that we are succeeding as we strive for excellence and quality in all that we do. Our new record score reflects highly on all the work that is being put in by our talented staff, and tells us that students say we are getting things right.”
Students also gave favourable responses to the importance placed by the university on employability and careers. Questions about the quality of general IT and library facilities also met with positive responses.
The Vi c t o r i a H i g h e r Education Campus (VHEC), in c o l l aboration with the University of Greenwich, is most carefully monitored and supported by the home campuses in the UK. To quote the Director of VHEC, “We strive to exceed the high educational quality standards and teaching excellence of the University of Greenwich. We enjoy modern facilities, a pleasant study environment, and a convenient centre of town location not far from the British Council.
Much more than this our tuition fees are a fraction of that if you studied in the UK, but nevertheless, the degrees we offer are internal degrees of the renowned University of Greenwich and recognized globally.
For this year’s intake and for September 2014, VHEC is offering generous scholarships of up to 75% for local Sri Lankan students you can demonstrate a financial need. At VHEC we are happy to support financially talented students wishing to study for a UK University degree, and confirms VHEC’s moral ethos and echoes our social responsibilities we have for our host country, Sri Lanka.”
At VHEC you can study International Business, Accounting & Finance and Computer Science, at Bachelor and Master degree levels. Additionally from 2014, VHEC will enrol students wishing to undertake a final year ‘Top-Up’.

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) has organized a workshop on “Adopting Environmental Management Accounting ” on Tuesday, 26thAugust 2014 from 9.00am to 12.30 pm at the Distance Learning Centre, 28/10, Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo -7.
The environment has become an important consideration for businesses as well as for all the professionals including accountants. Increasing costs, natural and industrial accidents, increasing media coverage, growing environmental regulations and environmentally conscious stakeholders are creating pressure on organizations to be environmentally sensitive and prudent. These pressures have challenged the traditional ways in which the businesses operated. Yet, if an organization can manage this environmental challenge effectively it will be a source for competitive advantage. Encouraged and sometimes compelled by these reasons, organizations pursue various environmental management practices. In order to support the environmental management actions, a body of accounting practices referred to as “Environmental Management Accounting (EMA)” has emerged.
EMA has now become a fast diffusing accounting practice, in developed and developing countries. Despite the growing importance of EMA globally, it is still limited in application in emerging economies including Sri Lanka. There are various reasons for the low level of diffusion of EMA in Sri Lanka and other emerging economies. Among them, the lack of managers’ awareness, especially among accountants is significant. Understanding this issue, CMA launched the “EMA Guidelines for Sri Lankan Enterprises” in its National Conference in June 2014 and this book will be issued to the participants at the workshop. This workshop aims to provide practical insights for the Sri Lankan enterprises to adopt these EMA Guidelines.
Mr. Nuwan Gunarathne will share the theoretical and actual experiences in Adopting EMAin this workshop for the Sri Lankan enterprises. This workshop covers areas such as the corporate environmental challenge, corporate greening, Environmental Management Accounting, EMA tools and techniques, corporate EMA strategydevelopment stages and a practical framework for EMA adoption.
This half day workshop is specially designed to meet the clients’ needs and to provide practical insights on the adoption of EMA.
The workshop is intended for the management accountants, financial accountants, and financial controllers in both private and public sector enterprises. The engineers, health and safety officers, personnel in charge of CSR activities will also be benefited from the workshop. Interested other parties such as researchers, environmentalists and academics will also be gained from the workshop.
