President’s College charge strong through U15 ranks

The Pre s i d e n t ’ s College Under- 15 cricket team qualified for the pre- quarterfin­al stage of the Singer Trophy All-Island Schools Under- 15 Division I Cricket Tournament, after performing well in the preliminar­y rounds.

President’s College played seven first round games and recorded three wins, against Lumbini by 93 runs, against D. S. Senanayake College by three wickets and against Piliyandal­a Central by nine wickets. But they suffered two losses before reaching the second round. St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa beat them by 102 runs and Royal College recorded a five- wicket win against President’s.

Due to heavy rain, games played against St. John’s Colle ge and Mahanama College ended in no decisions.

President’s played four games in the second round and won three of them quite convincing­ly. The only loss recorded came against Nalanda College. They beat St. John’s College Nugegoda by six wickets, Trinity College by 65 runs and Mahinda College Galle by 163 runs before losing to Nalanda by a mere three runs.

The highlights of the 11 games played so far, Hiruna Dinelka, the wicketkeep­er/ batsman hit an enterprisi­ng knock of 169 runs against Mahinda G a l l e. Fast bowler Mohamed Rifaz impressed with 20 wickets in 11 games. He claimed five wickets against Trinity while capturing four wickets against Mahinda Galle. Iranga Hashan has impressed so far as an allrounder with a tally of 225 runs and 14 wickets to his credit.
