Hashan Haputhanth­ri launch TRAVIS BRANDSOLOG­Y to SLIM

One of the Sri Lanka’s successful Marketing / Brand strategist and Tactician and by the words of the Marketing industry “Sri Lanka’s Brand Guru” Mr. Hashan Travis Haputhanth­ri had his book launch for his philosophy called “TRAVIS BRANDSOLOG­Y” for Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing in Colombo . Hashan launched his book called TRAVIS BRANDSOLOG­Y which is the 1st Asian Philosophy for Brands. He also launched his web site www. travisbran­dguru. com. Anyone can log on and can find out the untolds of branding via this fabulous state of the art web site. Hashan handed over his book to SLIM President Mr. Kalana Rathnayake.

Speaking with enthusiasm and dignity to SLIM, Hashan Travis further said, “I am so grateful to SLIM President Mr. KalanaRatn­ayake, Vice President Mr. Ruwan Liyanage, Pradeep Edward, Sanath Senanayake (CEO) in paving the way for this historic event and also to Sarasavi Publishers in taking the fullest responsibi­lity in printing and publishing it via Sarasavi Bookshops islandwide.

It was Mr. Kalana ( in 2011, an EXCO member and subsequent­ly became the President of SLIM) who wanted me to go-public with my Philosophy in 2011 when it was just scripted. I shared this in Matara and Kandy SLIM and the reception was perfect. Then on the same year I went to Singapore and Pakistan to publish this philosophy. Then on special invitation I went to India, Korea, Japan, Peru and UK to share this philosophy and once again the feedback was perfect. In 2012 in India and at the 39th World Marketing Congress the 1st edition was launched.

In 2014 Mr. President and the Education Vice President Mr. Ruwan Liyanage together with Mr.Pra deep Edward called and said to take over the re- wamp of SLIM Diploma in Brand Management within 60 days and today 30th January 2015 the batch 06 received a complete new syllabus and re- launched the st u dy pack as Diploma in Strategic Brand Management ( DSBM) under my leadership was a huge mile stone I achieved for SLIM. DSBM has a practical project where students experience real brand launch on their own. This is the 1st time in Sri Lanka/ Asia and probably in the World that an experience such as this nature is offered to students. I am so glad and happy to introduce a programme to this course and I am honord that D r. KritiDutta’s book is used for this programme as the 1st hand book. Studnets from batch 06 onwards will experience the best in branding since legends of Branding in Sri Lanka like Mr. Tilan Wijesekara, Gamika De Siva, Leroy Ebert and Tharaka Dias is involved to coach future brand managers of our country. The aim of this programme is to “create a Brand Marketer who is practical, world class and with a wider vision”.

In SLIM DSBM course Hashan has introduced a concept call “Make your own brand in a practical way” is the latest newest addition where SLIM Brand Diploma batch 05 students launched three brand project namely “Juice Republic”/ Sera Deal and Waffle Station and under the guidance of Hashan Travis, where students being driven to experience the practicali­ty of branding. According to most of the students experienci­ng a project of this nature was a complete mind opener and never expected.

However, the agreement of SLIM President to have my book launch is an honor and a great moment in my life. It was dream of mine since I started as a student with SLIM in 1995.

Commenting further, Hashan Travis further said “this philosophy will educate the Sri Lankan Brand Marketers to open their eyes for a brand new era. Branding is not a science, but and art. Brand Managers are a different DNA people where they are born and can not be created. Therefore, they need to read about the inside, real life case studies to understand Brandsolog­y. Also, most of the Sri Lankan Brand Managers are executing a Communicat­ion Managers job and not strategica­lly looking into the deep areas of Branding. Some think Branding as making a logo and that is wrong. However, my philosophy will educate and will enhance the knowledge span of a Sri Lankan Brand Marketer.”

Hashan believes that in Sri Lanka, the brand management concept and the marketing management concept has not properly utilized. “I strongly believe that MARKETING concept has reached its decline. It is time to move towards the BRANDS. I started to realize this when I started working for brands and that was 16 years ago. With my brand management, strategy and tactical experience, I thought I should deliver my thinking to the world who believes in brand management in practice.

Hashan Haputhanth­ri is the Head of Marketing for TVS Lanka where they market tow wheelers and Three wheelers. Hashan further commented that the Leadership of Mr. RaviLiyang­e to TVS and to his career is a truly inspiratio­n where the experience gained from him is unmatchabl­e for building brands through STRATEGY. “I call Mr. Ravi Liyanage as “the GURU of STRATEGY” and he is next only to Michel Porter” added Hashan with dignity.

Having more than 17 years of brand marketing experience for both Food and Non Food, Hashan headed brands like Nivea, Maliban Biscuits ( instrument­al in launching Maliban Smart Cream Crackers) and in Fiji Islands – Sunquick, Weetbics, Royal Tea, Island Chill Mineral water and 30 other major brands. Hashan has done research in Inca, Egypt and Sri Lankan symbolog y. He has furt her researched color psychology and Namelogy as well. Brand marketing and non convention­al marketing are his inventions and newly revamped Diploma in Strategic Brand Management for SLIM is also his invention
