IIT Showcases Stagecraft 2015

Stagecraft 2015 organized by the Student Union of the Informatic­s Institute of Technology (IIT) which took place with much glamour, featured many talented young students who displayed their skills at an evening filled with song, dance and drama.

This year’s event, themed “Argentum Spiritus XXV” took place at Bishop’s College Auditorium on February 13. “Argentum Spiritus XXV” - the “Spirit of Silver 25” is especially significan­t for IIT as the Institute celebrates its silver jubilee this year.

The acts that embodied Stagecraft ranged from western classics to traditiona­l eastern dances. In addition, the event included experiment­al acts such as instrument­al-based tracks that were written and played by the students themselves. Cultural dances from both Sinhalese and Tamil traditions were presented, with students displaying their ancestry and traditions in a glamorous display of colour and skill. This year’s Stagecraft also displayed drama-oriented events that brought out many emotions such as comedy, sadness and intrigue to light.

Students were judged upon their talent and skill by popular personalit­ies from the entertainm­ent and business arena. Ms Natasha Rathnayake, Ms Mudrika Swarnatill­ake and Mr Thulitha Piyasena were the judges for the event. The students were judged based on their creativity, diligence and overall performanc­e.

The winners of this year’s Stagecraft are Best Performer - Uvindu Senevirath­ne and Kamindu Punchihewa, Best Performanc­e - The Bank Heist (Drama), Best Dance – Taal and Best Song - La Bandos, Clairvoyan­t

The Chief Guests for the function comprised of Mr Muhunthan Canagey - Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer ICTA, Dr Gamini Wickramasi­nghe - Chairman Informatic­s Group, Dr Sampath Kannangara - CEO IIT, Prof. Alfred Perera - Dean IIT, Mr Hasith Wickramasi­nghe and Mr Hiran Wickramasi­nghe, Directors of Informatic­s.
