It’s still not too late to join the prestigiou­s Swinburne Pathways at NCHS for Feb 2015 Intake

Nawaloka College of Higher Studies ( NCHS) has grown in prominence within the higher education sphere with a commitment to make quality higher education more accessible and affordable for Sri Lankan students. In a recent interview conducted, Akila Perera, the Head of Enrollment and Project Management at NCHS, discussed in detail what NCHS has to offer for Sri Lankan students who seek to pursue internatio­nally recognized higher education pathways. Q: What are the Swinburne pathways on offer at NCHS?

A: NCHS currently offers two Swinburne Degree pathways, namely Swinburne Foundation Studies and Swinburne UniLink (Diploma) programs. Both of these are 8 month programs designed to provide fast- tracked access to a range of prestigiou­s Swinburne bachelor degrees. Students who have completed their O/Levels can apply for the Swinbur ne Foundation Studies, while those who have received their A/ Level results can enroll for the Swinburne UniLink ( diploma) program.

Students can gain world recognized Swinburne qualificat­ion-snow at NCHS while cutting down nearly one quarter of the cost of their degree. The quality and standards of the study programs conducted at NCHS are same as Swinburne, Austra lia . Internatio­nally accredited Swinburne degree qualificat­ions have never been more accessible to Sri Lankan students.

Q: Why should a student pursue Swinburne degree pathway programs at NCHS?

It is a highly sought-after education destinatio­n among both Australian and internatio­nal students and Swinburne degree pathways at NCHS provide a more cost and time effective route to obtaining a prestigiou­s Swinburne qualificat­ion. NCHS is the only institute in Sri Lanka that offers guaranteed pathways to Swinburne. Once a student successful­ly completes the pathway program at NCHS, they gain a guaranteed placement in Swinburne Australia or Malaysia to continue theirselec­ted degree program.

Q: Do they become a Swinburne student when enrolling for the Swinburne pathways at NCHS?

A: Of course. When a student enrolls for any of these programs at NCHS, they enroll with Swinburne directly and they become an official student of Swinburne. That’s what makes these pathway programs special. From offer letters to the Student IDs, everything is directly provided by Swinburne. NCHS students will have access to Swinburne student support services including the online library and the Blackboard student portal, just as a student studying at the Swinburne, Melbourne campus.

The syllabuses followed, methods of course delivery and evaluation are all identical to Swinburne, Australia. Even the exams will be held on the same day as them. We have a well experience­d faculty which includes academics from Swinburne, in order to maintain the same standards. There’s no lapse in the quality.

Q: How can these pathway programs be a stepping stone to further education in Australia?

A: Swinburne is a highly ranked internatio­nal university. Their degree pathway programs are accredited by all Australian Universiti­es and many other internatio­nal universiti­es across the globe. So, once you complete the Swinburne degree pathways, even if you decide to enroll with another university in Australiat­o follow a relevant study course, that option will always be available for students. Following these pathway programs at NCHS will broaden your higher education options in Australia. The Swinburne pathways at NCHS can be a stepping stone to tertiary education in general and not just limited to Swinbur ne University of Technology. What are the facilities students can expect at NCHS?

A:NCHS provides students with state-of-the-art facilities including a purpose-built engineerin­g laboratory, a modern computer lab and a resourcefu­l library to create a stimulatin­g learning environmen­t.Our engineerin­g laboratory is well equipped to conduct engineerin­g lab practical sessions and includes Brinel& Vickers hardness tester, Metallurgi­cal sample polisher, electrical­ly heated Furnas with brick insulation, digital display charpy& izod impact testing machine and a UV visible spectropho­tometer amongother necessary equipment.

Students will have access to free Wi-Fi and there are many tranquil study areas for them to engage in self-study and research. There are no additional costs for text books, so students can save more. We are centrally located in Colombo, and NCHS also provides ample parking space despite being located in the heart of the City.

Q: Does NCHS offer financial support to students?

A: NCHS is committed to make quality internatio­nal higher education more affordable and accessible for Sri Lankan students. We recently launched the “NCHS Academic Excellence Scholarshi­p” program to support ambitious young students to pursue Swinburne Degree pathways at NCHS. We hope to identify students with exceptiona­l academic and extra- curricular achievemen­ts and award them full and partial scholarshi­ps to assist them achieve their academic and career dreams.

In addition to the scholarshi­p programs, NCHS has also partnered with HNB and NDB banks to provide student loans at special interest rates, exclusivel­y for NCHS students.
