IIT offers University of Westminste­r scholarshi­ps at Kingswood College annual IT Day

The Informatic­s Institute of Technology (IIT) which was the main sponsor for the IT Quiz competitio­n held during the Kingswood College IT day has offered five scholarshi­ps in collaborat­ion with the University of Westminste­r, UK.

The recent scholarshi­ps offered by IIT which are valued at Rs. 7 million was given with the aim of empowering and enhancing the IT talents of students and as a part of the institutes corporate social responsibi­lity initiative­s.

Ananda College, Colombo emerged victorious at the IT quiz completion and was awarded a cheque of Rs. 25,000 and five scholarshi­ps worth Rs. 1.4 million each from IIT. Kandy Girls High school emerged as the first Runner up while Gateway College Kandy took the third place at the competitio­n.

The members of the Ananda College, Colombo winning team comprised of Pasindu Chathurang­a Wijesena, Thisura Jarasing he, Vidura Dhananjaya Bandara, Vihanga Asinsana Wijesekara, and Yasiru Gamage.

The first round of the competitio­n comprised of a question paper given to each team that included 50 questions in five subject areas that required to be completed in 20 minutes and the second round of the competitio­n was the quiz. A prominent panel of IIT campus prepared the question paper and jointly adjudicate­d the answers provided by each team with the corporatio­n f rom ICT teachers of Kingswood College.

Ten leading Schools from Colombo and Kandy participat- ed in this year’s competitio­n which was a very closely fought contest by all participat­ing teams.

Chief Guest for the occasion was Chairman of Epic Lanka, Mr. Nayana Dehigama. The event was also graced by the management and staff of IIT that included Rajitha Fernando (Manager – Student Relations and Business Developmen­t) with the judges for the event being Nishan Saliya , Curriculum Developer and Lasitha Samarasing­he, School ICT programme coordinato­r.

One of the key objectives of IIT sponsoring this event is to create a platform of opportunit­y for students to receive training through workshops, career guidance programmes and industrial visits.

IIT will continue its efforts in supporting initiative­s that offer opportunit­ies for students to harness their talents and enhance their knowledge in IT .

With 25 years of educationa­l excellence in being a pioneer in providing British higher education in Business and Informatio­n Technology in Sri Lanka, IIT has produced nearly 3000 graduates who are holding prestigiou­s positions across the globe.
