-

Sri Lanka being the island of serendipity has a wide array of wonders to offer. Explore Sri Lanka 5.0 is a project which is initiated by AIESEC Colombo North Local Committee in the University of Kelaniya. The project extends the opportunity for a number of foreign interns to witness the true beauty of the island. The objective of the project is to promote tourism within the country by giving the chance for the interns to travel across the country exploring the hidden splendor and grandeur of Sri Lanka, experiencing the blend of culture and traditions of Sri Lankan people as well.

AIESEC is the world’s largest student run organization which has been able to establish its roots in over 124 countries and territories with over a membership of over 100,000. The focus of AIESEC is to provide a platform for the development of the youth and offers them the opportunity to be global citizens and to be the change that they want to make for a better tomorrow while developing their skills.

AIESEC Colombo North has been an active local committee providing many life changing experiences for more than 400 interns from around the world. Explore Sri Lanka 5.0 extended the opportunity for 20 foreign delegates from China, Taiwan, Ukraine, Prague and Vietnam this year to join the project and to be a part of Zephyr 2015. The delegates formed a photography team and travelled around the country discovering the exotic beauty and capturing the best of the island. The objective of this project was to shed the lime light on the rural beauty of Sri Lanka which has a great impact on the nation’s heritage but is unnoticed by the majority of the tourists and people. The interns documented the true beauty of Sri Lanka by taking pictures and making videos during their stay. Through the exchange participants, this project promotes the exposure of the island on a global platform by giving the opportunity for the delegates to promote the wonder of Sri Lanka as seen through the eye of a tourist.

The project also makes it possible for the under- graduates of the University of Kelaniya and also the exchange participants to develop their soft skills, leadership skills and also to gain multi – cultural exposure by actively interacting with each other.

A selection of the best photographs of the participants was displayed at Zephyr 2015 which was held for the 4th consecutive time at the Independence Arcade on the 14th of February 2015. The event was graciously declared open by the chairman of the Tourist Board, Mr. Claude Thomas and also Dr. Janaka Wijayanayaka, Senior Treasurer of AIESEC graced the occasion representing the University. Members from local committees of other universities were also present at the exhibition encouraging and supporting the Organizing Committee and also the Colombo North Local Committee. The exhibition was open from 5.00PM onwards for the public. Crowds which were present at the Independence Arcade, Colombo 07, made their way towards the exhibition which led to the greater success of the exhibition. Zephyr 2015 was an event which formed the foundation for stronger international relationships and diversity which are some of the core values of AIESEC.

Zephyr’15 was supported by Nikon Sri Lanka as the Official Printing partner along with Wijaya Gems (pvt) Ltd, as the Gold sponsor of the event.
