Lyceum Wattala well set to defend title

Defending overall champions Lyceum Internatio­nal School Wattala with 596 points heads the points table closely followed by last year’s runner-up Gateway College, Colombo (574 points) at the close on the second day of the 16th Inter-Internatio­nal Schools Athletic Championsh­ip at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex Diyagama yesterday.

With 52 final events to be worked off today – the final day will decide the overall champions. A total of 1866 athletes from 24 internatio­nal schools take part in the annual event, organised by the Lyceum Internatio­nal School, Nugegoda. Four new meet records were establishe­d on the first day and seven more were added at the end of the second bringing the total number of records to 11.

Relay (Gate- way Intl’ Colombo) 55.48secs.

Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga will be the chief guest on final day today and will distribute the awards to the winners. Higher Education State Minister Mohanlal Grero declared open the meet on Friday.
