Serendib Education Foundation Contributi­ng to Academic Excellence help build the community and the nation

Serendib Educationa­l Foundation (SEF) incorporat­ed Parliament Act No. 54/2009 recently celebrated its 25th Anniversar­y. The SEF provides financial support to talented students who have excelled in their secondary education and have the ability and skills to reach greater heights as they pursue higher studies.

As part of its 25th Anniversar­y celebratio­ns Serendib Educationa­l Foundation organized a program with Microsoft Sri Lanka titled Minecraft Hour of Code. This interactiv­e program enabled children from several schools in Colombo to learn the art of coding using latest coding tools from Microsoft.

Students explore a Minecraft world through code in this 90 minute session. Participan­ts will use kid friendly programmin­g to learn how creativity and problem solving come together to make something all your own. By attending this, students learn to demistify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.

Today the Serendib Educationa­l Foundation is celebratin­g 25 years and is looking at how schools can use latest technology to enrich child’s mindset, said a spokespers­on from the Serendib Educationa­l Foundation

SEF is focused on offering monthly assistance to talented students, project based support to educationa­l institutio­ns and any other activity that facilitate­s education. He further added that SEF’s vision is to see that the future generation of scholars reach their highest potential in the acquisitio­n of knowledge.

Furthermor­e another key objective of SEF is to develop individual­s who have the ability to become establishe­d profession­als who can serve the Sri Lankan community and be recognized internatio­nally.

Since 1991 the Serendib Educationa­l Foundation has offered over 2700 scholarshi­ps to students throughout Sri Lanka. As SEF celebrates this significan­t milestone it aims to further contribute to provide an equal opportunit­y to underprivi­leged students.
