University Preparation College from Sydney Australia ties up with Mother’s Touch Academy to train preschool teachers and caregivers

-

Mother’s Touch is a Teacher Training Academy that understands that preschool teachers and childcare givers have one of the most important jobs – the care and education of children during the most crucial period of their lives. Research has proved that a child’s development during the first five years of their lives is unparalleled to any other period of development.

Following this line of thought, and identifying the shortage, crying need and demand for professional Care Givers, quality Day Care facilities and Teacher Training in Sri Lanka. Mrs. Geetha Kaduwela set up Mother’s Touch 10 years ago. She created this Academy upon her return from Australia, qualified in this specialized field. The name ‘Mother’s Touch’ itself conveys the warmth and simplicity associated with reaching out to a child, which underpins her practice. Mrs. Kaduwela began her first ‘Child Care and Teacher Training Diploma Program’ in 2005 in humble beginnings with a small group of individuals. Nostalgically reflecting on the past 10 years she proudly mentions that more than 1500 students have graduated and gone on to secure employment locally , pursue further studies or obtain overseas employment.

She foresaw that her mission is to protect children and ensure their safety, health and nutrition with education through a stress free environment, inculcating joy and independence in children in their early childhood while fostering the uniqueness of every child. She seeks to accomplish her mission through quality teacher training programs. The programs cover the theoretical and practical aspects teachers and caregivers need to provide high quality care to children. Students have a variety of courses to choose from, depending on their educational level, experience and future plans. The Academy offers Certificate programs for students who wish to join after their Ordinary Levels.

In recognition of the high standards and training methodology at ‘Mother’s Touch’ her academy was able to tie up with an Australian College, University Preparation College to offer the Australian courses CHC30113 Certificate lll in Early Childhood Education and Care and CHC50113 Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. These prestigious qualifications, which are the legal requirements to work in Australia, have been successfully offered at Mother’s Touch Academy since 2013.

Another specialty is the “Mother’s Touch Preschool and Daycare”. The model centre provides care and education for children aged 6 months to 6 years. The Centre is headed by Mrs. Kaduwela’s daughter, Rashmi who holds a Masters in Education specialising in Early Childhood Education from the University of Monash Australia. Her belief is that children should learn through play and that is exactly how her programs are formulated inculcating educational aids, toys and outdoor activities designed to achieve this balance. The centre focuses on the child’s holistic development.

She attributes her success in the academic field to her qualified, motivated and creative staff that is committed to providing quality educational programs and care. The lecturer panel is made up of well trained and highly qualified lecturers in the field of Early Childhood Education and care. Mrs. Kaduwela is hands on in her chosen field for the past 35 years and is available to discuss any matter concerning the Centre, Academy or your child as her emphasis is on the fact that a child’s happiness is primary to her or his development.
