Janidu’s all-round performance guides Bandaranayake to 81 runs victory over Dharmapala, Pannipitiya
A superb all-round performance by skipper Janidu Jayawardene (107 and 4 for 37) spearheaded Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha to a 81 run victory over Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya in a Singer Under 15 Division ‘A’ Cricket Tournament 2016 match at Pannipitiya.
Put into bat Dharmapala were dismissed for 126 in 34.3 overs. Gihan Dayananda stood alone for the Pannipitiya school with a polished knock of 77 as the other batsmen failed to cope with the accurate bowling spells by Janidu Jayawardene (4 for 37) and Piumal Rupasinghe (4 for 23). Janidu with his right arm leg spinners contained the batsmen making shot making difficult with well controlled flighted deliveries.
In their turn in chasing the victory target Bandaranayake MMV was guided by Janidu Jayawardene scoring a fine century came off in 122 deliveries including six towering sixes and nine fours. Janith Tharaka Silva giving a good support for Jayawardene scoring a patient 39 runs in reaching the target and to post 201 for the loss of seven wickets in 48.4 overs.
In another match played at Raddoluwa Sri Pragnananda MMV was held to a no-decision by Bandaranayake MV. Sri Pragnananda scored a healthy 224 for 8 in 59.2 overs. Lakshman Ruwantha and Praveen Nimesh were the top scorers with 54 and 56 respectively. Bandaranayake MV were struggling with 128 for the loss of 6 wickets in 42 overs at the close.
Weather gods were not kind enough for St. Thomas’s College, Kotte as both of their matches in the same tournament were abandoned without a result.
In their first outing against Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Kottawa Bandara Ratnayake scored a well timed 56 runs in their total of 170 for 7 in 52.5 overs. Dharmapala were 35 for 4 off 12 overs when play was abandoned for the day.
