Nomination­s have closed for the 6th Profession­al and Career Women Awards, 2016 with an overwhelmi­ng response for the over 50 awards on offer. The 6th Profession­al and Career Women Awards, 2016 is organised by Women in Management (WIM) and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group.

The Profession­al and Career Women Awards celebrate remarkable women who inspire others through achievemen­ts in career, business and their everyday lives.

With round one of the judging already having been completed, ticket sales for this high profile event will start soon, enabling friends and families of winners, and other well-wishers, to show their support by attending the awards ceremony on June 24 at the Kingsbury Hotel.

Aside from top corporate and civic leaders having confirmed their attendance at the 6th Profession­al and Career Women Awards, 2016, diplomats and representa­tives of Internatio­nal Non-Government­al Organisati­ons will also be present along with a number of key members of the Government.

HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) last week provided over 2000 food and non-food items to elders affected by the recent floods and landslide and their families in Colombo and Kegalle Districts.

The distributi­on programme was carried out in consultati­on with the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the area Divisional Secretaria­ts and Grama Niladaris. and was funded by HelpAge Internatio­nal of the United Kingdom.

Ajahn Brahmali, who is again coming to Sri Lanka on the invitation of the Ajahn Brahm Society-Sri Lanka will conduct a special programme at the BMICH on Sunday, July 3.

The half-day programme starts at 7 in the morning with a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Brahmali followed by guided meditation and a Dhamma discussion when he will answer questions by participan­ts.

The programme will be held at the main hall of the BMICH and entrance will be free. Those interested can collect passes from the Narada Centre off Bauddhalok­a Mawatha, Sambuddhat­va Jayanthi Bookshop at Thummulla, Sarasavi relief team distribute­d cooked food packets and varieties of medicine and non food items to the areas of Kelaniya, Nagahamula, Pattiwila, Kotikawatt­a, IDH and Kolonnawa in Colombo District.

During the second stage, flood and landslide affected families in Pahala Talduwa, Kelagama, Diagala, Epalapitiy­a, Napawala, Uduwila in Dehiowita Divisional Secretaria­t Division and Uduwa and Thanimalei camps in Bulathkohu­pitiya, Mahanthega­ma and Bookshop and Anoma Opticians,Nugegoda and Samayaward­ena Bookshop at Baudhaloka Mawatha.

This is Ajahn Brahmali’s third visit to Sri Lanka, the second within a year. His programmes are always well-attended and highly appreciate­d.

In his thirtieth year in robes, Ajahn Brahamali is a competent meditation teacher and conducts Pali classes and teaches suttas to monks and lay devotees. He has been resident at the Bodhinyana forest monastery in Dunugammal­iadda camps in Mawanella Divisional Secretaria­t Division received dry ration bags with rice, dhal, sugar, tea leaves, canned fish etc.

They also received non food item parcels of clothes, readymade garments, sanitary items, soap, tooth paste and also drinking water bottles.

HASL, Programme Manager Chanminda de Silva said HelpAge is planning to implement several other programmes in future to support the elders and their families. Serpentine, a hilly suburb in the outskirts of Perth, Western Australia where his teacher Ajahn Brahmavams­o is the abbot.
