Global Education Centre (GEC) a popular name in the field of education consultancy

-

Global Education Centre (GEC) is a popular name in the field of education consultancy and has pioneered in the Medical Education Overseas. Having excelled in producing doctors from Philippines and China now they are partnered with Smolensk University in Russia. Following is the interview we had with The Director Overseas Education in GEC Sri Lanka Ms.Rangika Jayalath.

What made you to tie up with a University in Russia?

The policy of GEC is to give the best to the students when it comes to Education Consultancy. Sending students for overseas education is not like delivering goods from a country to another, it is a very responsible job and we have adhered to it so much during the past decade or so.

As all Sri Lankans know we were the first to introduce Medical Education in the Philippines and it paid high dividends as the passed - outs excelled at the ERPM exams. We were looking for an opportunity to enter in to Russian market and the agreement we signed very recently to send Sri Lankan students to Smolensk University Russia is a dream come true for the Sri Lankan students who were eagerly awaiting to see GEC to tie up with a Russian university.

How do do you grade the Medical Education in Russia?

No one can argue with me if I say that the Russia is the country that has produced the highest number of Sri Lankan doctors after Sri Lankan Medical Collages. Russia has produced thousands of Sri Lankan doctors and more than once the high profiled post of Director, General Hospital of Colombo is filled by a Russian qualified doctor.

Smolensk University? Is it new for Sri Lankan students?

No. Not at all. Smolensk University itself has produced more than 300 Sri Lankan doctors. Due to various reasons this university was not promoted for Sri Lankan students in the recent past. Mainly due to the fact that the university could not find a reliable consultancy to appoint as its agents in Sri Lanka. GEC timely filled this gap and now the Sri Lankan Students are guaranteed of an high profiled medical University in Russia where they can see not only their dream but also their parent’s dream come true.

How about the cost and fees structure of the Smolensk university?

GEC has never introduced a university which exploit the situation to charge more from the Sri Lankan students. Here at Smolensk they charge only $ 4,500 per year from Sri Lankan students which will cover the tuition fee, Hostel fee and Medical Insurance fee. Meaning to say that the parents have to see that that have to spend only for the the student’s food expenses apart from this amount.

When is the next intake in Smolensk University ?

Enrollments are now on for the September 2016 intake and we advice the students to meet us early and reserve their seat as the number of students for this intake is limited and filling fast..

Where and how can the students meet you to get more details ?

We are at Sri Lanka’s premier business address World Trade Centre, Colombo. Students can come to level 6 East low Block of WTC on any working day from 8.30 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays 8.30 am to 1 pm. We advice them to get a prior appointment by calling our hotline 07 66 88 77 35 before coming.

You are new to this position as Director overseas Education In GEC. What can you tell us about this.

Although I was appointed as the Director Overseas Education recently, I was with GEC over a decade. My prime duty at GEC was customer relations and had a wonderful relationship not only with the students but also with their parents in the past..And also visiting the universities where we send students I have gained confidence in consulting as I can always share my own experience about these universities and their respective countries with the students and their parents

Can the students join with pending results ?

Yes they can register with pending results if they are confident enough of getting the minimum entry requirements.

Finally, tell us how do you value the money and time students spend on medical education overseas ?

I personally know the value and recognition my younger brother brought to my family by becoming a Doctor. He is of course a Graduate of Peradeniya Medical Faculty but it dose not matter where you graduate if you are a registered doctor in Sri Lanka it will give you and your family a great recognition and acceptance in the society which can not be matched by any other profession easily.
