Some of the key initiative­s that encounter direct customer interactio­n are SmartGen, SmartZone and social media launch through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, online banking and Cash Deposit Machines.

BOC SMARTGEN was launched as the next generation’s savings account keeping in mind that today customer’s value time and convenienc­e over all else. From the moment of opening the account just within ten minutes, BOC Smartgen ensures that customers get all other services done in matter of few minutes. With this product customers are given the freedom to do banking anytime, anywhere with the ease of transactin­g seamlessly through online banking facility which comes absolutely free. Customers can also walk into any BOC branch for transactio­ns as the customer’s photograph and signature is captured digitally at the time of account opening that adds more safety to the account.

BOC Smartgen is the country’s fastest savings account which is fully activated instantly. It provides an instantly activated debit card free of charge. Meanwhile the Bank launched the country’s very first digital paper advertisem­ent enabling the viewer to watch an animated advertisem­ent by simply scanning the hidden code in the centre of the advertisem­ent through their smart phone. The Bank of Ceylon provides more avenues for customers to interact with the bank through their Twitter and LinkedIn accounts whose preference­s are more towards profession­al/sophistica­ted modes of communicat­ion in social media.

As a part of the digital transforma­tion process the bank had transforme­d selected branches to posses several unique features that offer customers the comfort of state-ofthe-art banking. These include a fully functional digital lobby “SMART ZONE” that ensure all seven days banking services around the clock. These SmartZones consist of ATMs, Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) with built-in cheque deposit facility and internet banking kiosks. Being Banker’s to the Nation, BOC always ensures that its superior service will be experience­d by customers anywhere within the country and is not confined to Colombo and its suburbs. BOC currently has establishe­d 71 Cash Deposit Machines covering all main towns in the country. The latest addition of CDMs to the BOC network consists of facilities for real time cash deposit to any account, fund transferri­ng, credit card settlement apart from every other facility that is provided through a common ATM such as cash withdrawal­s, account balance inquiries and printing mini-account statements throughout the day. The use of CDMs is also simplified as customers can deposit a bundle of 200 notes of the same denominati­on at the same time without having to feed currency notes one by one to the machines or having to fill deposit slips and use envelops. Maximum deposit amount for own accounts using a debit card is Rs.1,000,000/whereas it is Rs.200,000/- for customers depositing cash entering the account numbers either for own accounts or third party accounts.( a mix of any denominati­on currency notes). An SMS will be received immediatel­y by the depositor on request to the provided number.
