How can positive business psychology boost your Business? Can positive business psychology help businesses rise from a recession? Is it all in the mind? If it is all in the mind how can we learn to master the business mind? Business leaders seem to be reluctant to talk about the value of positive psychology in the workplace during tough economic times. On the one hand it’s understandable not to be discussing happiness and positive things when people are losing their jobs. One the other hand, this is exactly the time for positive psychology to be used, to dispel the myth about “fluffy happy thoughts.” The answers to all these questions and more can only come by understanding and mastering the new buzz word in the corporate world, which is Business Psychology! Business psychology is booming. It is becoming more common for leaders in the business world to consult psychologists in order to improve the ability of organizations to function effectively, grow, and solve complex problems. A career in Business psychology offers a great deal of opportunities, and somebody with a background in this field will have many different options to choose from in a career. Some of the fields related to business psychology include consulting, human resources, management solutions and organizational development. Students who pursue a degree in business psychology will find themselves being educated in several different fields. They will learn about the theory of human organizations, as well as some of the research that is currently underway in the field. This will give them the ability to select personnel, perform interventions and assess and develop organizations. They will also gain knowledge of research and statistical analysis. This will give them the ability to approach problems from a rational perspective in order to devise solutions that are more likely to work based on previous research.

How positive psychology can help business

All too often during tough economic times, the response by management is to “bear down and tough it out,” often giving the message to employees that they’re lucky to have a job and have nothing to complain about. All too infrequently, those same managers neglect to examine the principles and strategies of positive psychology.

The Master in Business Psychology from Heriot Watt University teaches its graduates how positive psychology can help boost a business. Having a healthy sense of control over one’s life, work and is important for well-being and the absence of it results in anxiety, depression and lowered performance. The program helps business leaders manage their enterprise by setting goals and achieving them. Recent findings from positive psychology research identify factors such as character strengths, optimism and resilience playing significant roles in how well those goals are managed.

It teaches senior managers and business leaders to manage the bad times much better when they focus on employee strengths, praise, liking rewards to performance results, helping employees become better self-managers, and maintaining a cheerful, positive and optimistic attitude regardless of what is happening.

This one of a kind masters program helps students understand that, values are at the heart of what is important in life and work. A commitment to core values takes place in three forms: First, leaders need to be clear about the values they hold; second, they must effectively communicate those values to key stakeholders, and third, leaders need to ensure their actions are in alignment with their own personal values. Furthermore, students graduating with an MSc in Business Psychology from Heriot Watt University will learn how to create and properly administer
