A play on downfall of a business

Award winning teledreama director Susiran de Silva’s latest teleserial ‘Nettukkari­yo’, a story about a business family that is destroyed due to drunkennes­s and greed for power telecast every Saturday at 8.35 pm on the Rupavahini channel. Commencing on Saturday March 19, the play stars Jayalal Rohana, Kumara Thirimadur­a, Madani Malwatte, Nirosha Thalagala, Roshan Pilapitiya, Wasantha Kumarasiri, Hyacinth Wijeratne, Ruwanthi Mangala, Dilin Lakmali, Ananda Athukorala, Ajith Sandaruwan, Umayangana Wickremesi­nghe and Niluka Rekhani. The director of award winning plays like Manokaya, Ekata Getuma,, ‘Isuru Yogaya’ and ‘Nirsaththa­yo’, Susiran has won the Best Director and Best Screenplay writer awards. Screen play written by Susiran himself, the story revolves around Veenitha Ranadewa, a shareholde­r of a group of companies. She had got married when she was young and her husband had died when they had a 3 year old daughter. Later she gets married to the owner of her business David Ranadewa and Veenitha gives birth to a son named Jayadewa from that marriage. With dedication and hard work the couple develops their business. The story starts with the death of David, the father and the mother face with a problem of to whom the business

Alliance Française de Colombo in its weekly film screening will showcase two films LOL (Laughing Out Loud ) directed by Lisa Azuelos and ‘Le Capital’ directed by Costa Gavras.

Screening at 6.30p.m on March 23, LOL (Laughing Out Loud), a 2009 French comedy is about a teenage girl whose life is split among her studies in a prestigiou­s Parisian high school, her secret diary, her friends, boyfriends, her divorced parents, drugs, and sexuality. should be handed over. Her daughter hter from the first irst marriage Indrani is serious and she is not married.ed. On the other hand d son, Jayadeva who is noww a father to a son is a playboy oy and spendthrif­t. His main concerns in life are drinkingng anda and dancing. He takes life easy y and is not serious about the he family business. After discussing­iscussing with the son andd daughter,the mother decides to handover er the business ss to the daughter. er. She tries es to further develop p the busiiness and d finds out ut one managerer in the business ss is behind many losses. osses. When she tries to deal with him he gets closer ser to Jayadeva, Indrani’si’s stepbrothe­r and influences ces himtohim to take over the business.

This creates a family feud creating many dramatic twists and turns.

Behind the screen, Ranjith Jayantha handles the camera, editing is done by Priyantha yantha Wijesuriiy­a, music by Ananda Gamage,, lighting by Somaratne Perera, and Dimuthupri­yajanaka yajanaka does the art direction.

For her performanc­e in the film, Sophie Marceau won the MonteCarlo Comedy Film Festival Jury Prize for Best Actress in 2008. Christa Theret received a César Award Nomination for Most Promising Actress in 2010.

‘Le Capital’ screening at 3p.m on March 29th and at 6.30p.m on March 30 is a French drama about ruthless ambition, power struggle, greed and deception in the internatio­nal world of finance.

Made in 2012, the film follows an executive who is appointed the new CEO of a large French bank, and upsets the bank’s board of directors when he begins to take unilateral control of the bank, laying off a large number of employees and making a corrupt deal with the head of an American hedge fund.

The film subtitled in English will be screened at the auditorium of Alliance Française de Colombo, at 11, Barnes Place, Colombo 7.
