Taking pictures from smartphones, a new and emerging trend
The need to take quality and decent pictures is drifting rapidly from a professional DSLR camera to a hand-held smartphone device. Around 350 million pictures that are posted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat or any other social media platforms are taken from a simple smartphone device. All major smartphone manufacturers are mainly focusing on increasing the quality of pictures that are taken from their smart device.
Huawei Sri Lanka - Country Head, Henry Liu made this comment to the Business Times on the sidelines of the launch of the company's newest smartphone Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Lite at the Water's Edge in Colombo last week.
Mr. Liu said, "Technology is fast moving and new things are evolving around the world. Innovation has no end and as people, we all have to go forward with the new innovations that are been discovered. Today smartphones are manufactured to suit the needs of this generation and a phone with a quality camera is what people look forward to when purchasing one. The trend of taking pictures is now drifting from the DSLR cameras to smartphones while it is also true that people who love adventure and photography will actually need that kind of a DSLR camera." At some point or the other a picture capturing an appropriate moment using a smartphone will have more quality than a DSLR camera, he added.
At the launch, Mr. Liu mentioned that Huawei being ranked number 3 in the world has sold over 108 million units of devices globally. The company is investing a lot on research and development. "It's a camera which can take phone calls," he noted depicting the quality of camera the phone has in uniqueness comparing to other smartphones in the market.
A representative from Huawei Device Sri Lanka, Chao Ding made a presentation on the features of both Huawei P9 and P9 Lite. He said that all new Huawei smartphones are manufactured comparing with the new series of iPhone and Samsung smartphones. The Huawei P9 costs Rs. 75,999 and the P9 Lite is Rs, 39,999. The phone will be available in gold, silver and black colours and the unique feature of the Huawei P9 is that the camera has two lenses at the back. One which captures black and white images and the other captures the colour images to give a quality end result of a clear image. The phone also has the feature of taking pictures in the dark without a flasher, he added while also noting that Huawei P9 Lite has only one lens at the rear but gives a good quality image similar to that of Huawei P9.
According to the media release, Huawei P9 is the first smartphone co- engineered with the global iconic brand, Leica Camera AG. With a 5.2inch 1080 high definition display, the P9 is powered by the new Kirin 955 2.5GHz 64-bit ARM-based processor for leading class mobile performance. The 3,000 mAh high- density battery offers P9 users outstanding mobility and battery life. The Red Green and Blue (RGB) camera on the P9 specializes in capturing colour, while the monochrome camera is outstanding at acquiring picture detail. The two rear cameras of the P9 work in tandem to enable users to create images of superior detail, depth and colour.
