Students who are looking to pursue a successful accounting and finance career, can now apply for the September 2016 intake of the highly reputed Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Accounting offered by the country’s foremost profession­al organisati­on, the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

Students who have successful­ly completed the local GCE Advanced Level or the London Advanced Level (Edexcel/Cambridge) examinatio­ns with three passes can register for the degree programme. Additional­ly, profession­als who are employed and have fulfilled the basic entry requiremen­ts can also follow the degree programme on a part time basis. Students with pending results also can register for the degree.

The CA Sri Lanka BSc. in Applied Accounting degree programme is approved by the University Grants Commission and is also equivalent to the Degrees offered by the state universiti­es in Sri Lanka.

The BSc. Applied Accounting degree, which is conducted in Colombo, offers students recognitio­n both in Sri Lanka as well as overseas, apart from a very promising career in the field of accounting.

The degree is designed to impart quality academic education specific to the existing and emerging requiremen­t of the financial sector and has been developed with the objective of creating employable graduates with the required skills, competenci­es and industry knowledge to fulfil a successful accounting career, both in Sri Lanka and outside of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the students who follow CA Sri Lanka’s BSc. Degree in Applied Accounting also have the added advantage of interning for a period of one year with leading companies in the country.

The Internship and skills developmen­t component helps students reach their full potential as they pursue their training at prestigiou­s firms in the country, while also gaining sufficient practical exposure in technical areas and profession­al skills. The BSc. in Applied Accounting degree also offers a range of exemptions for CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, AAT and SLIATE HND qualificat­ions.

The CA Sri Lanka degree programme has also received endorsemen­ts from leading universiti­es and profession­al organisati­ons abroad, with Australia’s La Trobe University and CPA Australia entering into a partnershi­p with CA Sri Lanka. The accreditat­ion allows students who have completed the BSc. (Applied Accounting) degree programme to gain into the CPA programme as an Associate Member of CPA Australia, while La Trobe University allows students who have completed two years of the BSc. (Applied Accounting) degree in Sri Lanka, to enter into a specialize­d scheme allowing students to complete their undergradu­ate degree and get preferenti­al entry through a streamline­d process to complete a Master’s degree. This scheme has an option of providing students with post study work rights (PSWR) Australia.

Students who complete the degree programme successful­ly have an added advantage of securing a successful career locally and overseas, in the financial management and accountanc­y sphere, and also in nongovernm­ent and government­al sectors, apart from the private sector.

The degree from CA Sri Lanka is also a value addition when migrating, and when applying for Permanent Residency overseas and for a work visa. The BSc. Programme also guarantees a successful career in certain countries, including in the Middle East and Australia.

The degree is an entry requiremen­t for leading profession­al qualificat­ions offered by CPA Australia and ICAEW, while students who complete the BSc. Applied Accounting degree can progress towards obtaining a MBA and or a MSc.

Registrati­ons are currently open for the September 2016 intake, which is offered both on a full time and part time basis.
