Unbeaten D.S. Senanayake College booked their berth to play in the ongoing Singer Under-15 All Island Schools Cricket tournament with four first innings wins in seven outings.

This allround outfit scored wins over Ananda Sasthralay­a, Kotte, President’s College Maharagama, Asoka Vidyalaya Colombo 10 and Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa and were held to no-decisions by Joseph Vaz, Nalanda and St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa.

In the preliminar­y round matches prolific scorer and opening bat Teron Baskaran spearheade­d the batting line while the bowling department was led by the pacespin combinatio­n of Missaka Nadun and Kalana Jayawarden­e.

DSS defeated St. Joseph Vaz College by three wickets in a match played at Kotte recently. Kalana Jayawarden­e (3 for 32) and Missaka Nadun (2 for 32) rattled the Wennappuwa lads to be dismissed for 150 in 54 overs. With two first innings victories out of five outings made Bandaranay­ake College Gampaha qualifying to play in the second round of the Singer Under 15 Division I. Bandaranay­ake College defeated St. Peter’s College Colombo and St. Xavier’s College, Marawila in two matches played recently.

In the final match of the preliminar­y round against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa was highlighte­d by an unbeaten century filled with elegant strokes by opener Teron Baskaran. Batting first Sebs closed their innings with the total standing at 201 for 7 with Chakila Perera top scored with a fine 56.
