Sri Lanka Telecom are Mercantile Athletic champs for the third time

For the third successive time Sri Lanka Telecom emerged champions at the 33rd Mercantile Athletics Championsh­ips concluded at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex Diyagama.

Sri Lanka Telecom collected 420 points while the runners-up MAS Holdings gained 409 points. Sri Lanka Telecom bagged the championsh­ip title by a majority of 11 points.

The meet was conducted by the Mercantile Athletic Associatio­n and 48 companies in the private sector numbering nearly 2000 athletes took part in the three day event.

It is notable that all national sportsmen took part in the competitio­n and managed to win their respective events as well.

An Indian mercantile team too took part in the event and scored 45 points. The overall men’s championsh­ip was won by Sri Lanka Telecom with 202 points. The overall women’s championsh­ip went to MAS Holdings.

Nadeera Viyanage of MAS holdings and W.K.I.U. Priyangika of SriLankan Airlines were adjudged the best male and female athletes respective­ly.

Best athlete Nadeera Viyanage cleared the high jump in 1.89 mtrs while Priyangika clocked 15.1 secs in the 100 mtrs hurdles.
