The massive project of NSBM Green University Town started in 2013, and with an efficiently managed timeline of construction, has been able to complete by the exact time as planned. It is important to note that, this enormous endeavor was fully funded by NSBM itself, with the financial assistance of Bank of Ceylon, without being a burden to the treasury or the national economy.
NSBM Green University comprises a Business School, Computing School, and an Engineering School; all faculties are set-up after careful inspection of foreign university facilities and they possess an ultra-modern touch to them. The Business School not only carries all relevant amenities such as lecture halls and study-points, but also, has facilities to connect to the Stock market to get practical real-life business management experience. Computing School has all the needful conveniences to produce an explorative generation of young graduates with computer laboratories, lecture halls and other related facilities. The Engineering School is expected to commence several Engineering programmes that will bring forth an active workforce to the country. All faculties have access to the Green University library, one of the biggest libraries in the country, housing a million books and providing access to e-libraries around the world.
Graduate life at NSBM Green University will be a multifaceted one; it travels beyond the class room, as the university comprises all features needed for sports, and recreational activities, including playgrounds, fully equipped gymnasia, and swimming pools, among others, enabling the making of a true graduate. Moreover, the creative facet of the student body is nurtured through an state-of-the-art auditorium and an open air theater situated within the university premises.
The premises will also carry student and staff accommodation, supermarkets, beauty salons and much more, making it a fully-fledged University Town. This will be a totally novel experience to the public as the NSBM Green University is the first and the only one of that sort in the country.
NSBM Green University offers a range of industry standard degrees; from Human Resource Management to Supply chain management and logistics, and from computer networks to software engineering and computer security are offered by the Business and Computing Schools. Furthermore, the NSBM offers programmes in Multimedia and Interior Design as well. More programmes are to be added soon.
NSBM prides itself of the fact that many students who opts to go abroad to follow their higher education dreams, can now do so within Sri Lanka itself; this helps save precious money pumped to foreign countries for education. Correspondingly, the Green University Town will host a number of foreign students making the country earn foreign currency. Those who lost the opportunity to join a state university Town by a small margin, and also lack the financial strength to follow a foreign degree by moving to another country, can now join the NSBM Green University Town to continue their higher studies. Within a bearable cost, they have the opportunity to fulfil their dream of having an international level education, within Sri Lanka itself. The Green University Town also assists the country’s workforce by developing the Human capital; NSBM graduates are skilled in many a discipline and talented in fulfilling the objectives of any profit-seeking establishment.
The aptly named Green University Town, also seeks to cater to the everincreasing demands of the environmental requirements, by preserving energy, using renewable energy and having, literally, a “green” environment. All operations are fully computerized through a UMIS and paper usage will be minimized. This brings the NSBM Green University Town to a uniquely internationally advantageous position as well. Students will be made aware of the same, to produce an environmental friendly generation.
NSBM has partnered with several reputed foreign universities. University College of Dublin Ireland has been awarding degrees in Sri Lanka for almost 50 years, and is considered as one of the most prestigious universities in Europe. University of Plymouth is ranked in the top 300 universities of the world and in the top 30 of UK Universities. Limkokwing University of Creative technology, LUCT, is a well-known university in the Asia Pacific region for creative studies, with campuses in 16 countries.
