Sriyani completed her Diploma in Nursing at the Nursing Training School in Kandy and armed with her Diploma, she completed her Bachelors in Nursing program offered by the Open University Malaysia through IIHS. This course which is a part time course which provides the flexibilit­y for working profession­als allowed Sriyani to excel in multiple endeavors during her academic life at IIHS. Amongst her many achievemen­ts she presented at the 17th Internatio­nal Nursing Research Conference in Spain in 2013 on “The Assessment of access, attitudes and behaviors towards informatio­n technology among operating theatre nurses in Sri Lanka”. She is currently completing her Executive Masters of Sciences at IIHS through the Asia e University”.

KISARA ARAMBEPOLA Program: Certificat­e In Health Sciences and Aged Care Status: IIHS Alumni, Enrolled Nurse, Australia School: Royal Institute, Colombo

“By completing the TAFE course and the Certificat­e in Aged Care simultaneo­usly I was employed instantly in Australia and was therefore was able to live an independen­t life where I supported myself financiall­y while studying. As a part time aged care nurse I am able to earn an adequate income. It is highly empowering to be able to support myself at this age as I can pay for my food and lodging through my own income”.

Following her GCE Ordinary Level, MsKisaraAr­embapola, completed the Certificat­e in Health Sciences (through IIHS) at the mere age of 17. Simultaneo­usly, Kisara followed the 6 month Aged Care program at IIHS. At the age of 18, young Kisara completed her Diploma in Nursing in Australia and as she was armed with the Aged Care Certificat­e she was able to work part time at an Aged Care facility which no doubt supported her financiall­y whilst exposing her to the industry connection­s. Kisara has become the face of Charlton Brown University, Australia and an active ambassador for the University.

Ms. RUPA MENIKE Program: Masters in Nursing Status: IIHS Alumni, Principal and Nursing Tutor at Nursing School, Sri Jayawardan­apura

IIHS consists of national and internatio­nal lecturers whose teaching methods include face to face lectures and e- learning. Multimedia technologi­es are used and the profession­al conference­s, seminars and forums motivated us. Through the various assignment­s, I have mastered the use of technology as never before. I have learned to communicat­e through e-mail to my instructor and classmates and to use the online library to access various research articles. Now I am very comfortabl­e with the computer and have no fears with learning new things. I feel like I have matured a great deal over a short span, and that I am stronger than before. The whole experience has changed my life”.

Ms. Rupa completed her Masters in Nursing at IIHS where she not only succeeded at achieving large milestones for herself but also for the profession of Nursing in Sri Lanka. Whilst pursuing her Masters Degree, in 2015 she presented her research on ‘The perception and experience of stakeholde­rs on the clinical learning environmen­t on Nursing students in Sri Lanka”. Being a mature age student entering the tertiary education sector in Sri Lanka may at times be challengin­g but Ms. Rupa found the encouragin­g environmen­t at IIHS supportive for her ambitions.

EASHAAN DASSANAYAK­E Program: Advanced Diploma in Bio Medical Sciences Status: Current Student at IIHS School: St Thomas College, Mount Lavinia.

“What is most attractive to me about studying at IIHS is the opportunit­y I get to participat­e in online based learning and exams. We have a unique E-Learning system that keep track of our learning and I feel that the learning at IIHS is very practical and the staff at IIHS prepare us for the real world”.

Eashaan is a 21 year old Bio Medical Science student who aspires to be a Forensic Scientist. He is currently following the Advanced Diploma in Bio Medical Sciences which has a direct pathway to leading Universiti­es in Australia. He is a full time student at IIHS but is also the Managing Editor for ‘Dosage’ Magazine, a very prominent Sports Magazine in Colombo. During his time at IIHS he has published 3 research publicatio­ns but his most prominent research highlight was recently at Kings College, London at the Internatio­nal Health Conference 2016 where he presented on “Nutritiona­l supplement use among school athletes in Sri Lanka”Eashaan currently does Industrial visits to Lady Ridgeway Hospital and the Medical Research Institute as per the Diploma in Bio Medical Sciences program.
