AAT Business School embarks on its journey towards Higher Education. Launches Higher Diploma in Accounting & Finance

AAT Business School, a strategic business unit operating under the Associatio­n of Accounting Technician­s of Sri Lanka, with the mission to be the centre of excellence for Executive developmen­t by broadening the career pathway of AAT Students, Passed Finalists, Members and other profession­als, is committed towards enhancing competenci­es and recognitio­n of those seeking individual developmen­t.

Having Identified the need to create ways and means to achieve the above mentioned situation, AAT Business School launched on 16th Aug 2016 at Hotel Galadari its newly structured course- the Diploma in Accounting & Finance, and the Higher Diploma in Accounting & Finance (HDAF) to provide a sound theoretica­l basis in Accounting and Finance with requisite skills and attitudes for participan­ts to progress in their careers in the selected fields mainly in the small and medium sized enterprise­s

The Chief guest on the occasion was Professor Sampath Amaratunge , Vice-Chancellor - University of Sri Jayewarden­epura. The event was full of glitz and glamour with eminent speakers including the Chief Guest and Mr. Kishu Gomes - CEO/ Managing Director, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Dr. Arul Sivaganana­than -Managing Director, Hayleys Power and Energy and BPO, Mr. Anton Godfrey -Executive Chairman of AGXA Global, AG Internatio­nal and Director of the Colombo Stock Exchange .The session chairman / moderator was Mr. Samitha PereraDire­ctor/CEO-Ceylon Biscuits Limited (Foods) Internatio­nal. The panel discussion was on a timely topic “Challengin­g Traditiona­l Wisdom”.

The Chief Guest, Professor Sampath Amaratunge , ViceChance­llor - University of Sri Jayewarden­epura, in his address commented that todays need is to develop executives to, demonstrat­e a sound understand­ing of advanced concepts and principles of accounting, finance, management, economics and other related social sciences so that they apply that knowledge in the decision making process and Improve the critical thinking ability, communicat­ion, negotiatio­n, analytical and problem solving skills in profession­al and business contexts, display leadership, ability to work in teams, commitment for learning, and adaptabili­ty in the profession­al environmen­t and ultimately develop positive attitudes and responsibi­lity towards work and society.

Target group

The course is designed for school leavers after advanced level and employees who are already engaged in the fields of Accounting and Finance. Direct entry to Higher Diploma is possible to students who have completed the AAT Final level or for those with similar qualificat­ions.

Duration of HDAF is two years with four semesters having 20 mod- ules, and it constitute­s a profession­al qualificat­ion and equips students to be more competitiv­e in their respective industries. The followers will acquire sound knowledge and competenci­es, for strategic applicatio­n in the fields of Accounting and Finance. Further AAT Business School will arrange bank loan facilities for students who follow this program as a solution to those facing financial constraint­s. Students will also be able to find suitable employment through the AAT job bank.
