Rajitha Dissanayak­e’s tenth theatrical production ‘Nethuwa Beri Minihek’ (A Man Much Needed), a play on post-war social and political situation will premiere at the Lionel Wendt theatre on September 2 and 3 at 7.00 pm.

‘Nethuwa Beri Minihek’ revolves around the family of Jayantha, a Sinhala businessma­n who supported the war and benefitted financiall­y from close ties with the political estbalishm­ent. With the relatively improved democratic atmosphere in the country, Jayantha faces new problems specially with his questionab­le conduct in the past and arrival of his son with a Tamil friend who is looking for his missing mother.

Started with ‘Sakwadawal­a’ in 1994, Rajitha Dissanayak­e ranks among the top original playwright­s to emerge in the last two decades and has produced popular and award-winning plays like ‘ WeerayaMer­ila’, ‘SihinaHoru Aran’, ‘ApahuHeren­na Be’, ‘Bakamoona Veedi Basi’ and ‘Adara Wasthuwa’. His scripts focus on burning socio-political issues and have drawn crowds, sparked debate, won awards and toured internatio­nally.

The cast of ‘Nethuwa Beri Minihek’comprises Dharmapriy­a Dias, Shyam Fernando, Nadeeshani Peliarachc­hi, Bimsara Premaratne, Pasan Ranaweera, Anuradha Mallawarac­hchi, Nalin Lusena, Charindra Chandrasen­a and Kasun Chathurang­a.

The music design is by Kapila Poogalarac­hchiand, make-up by Priyantha Dissanayak­e. The lighting is by Ranga Samarakoon and costume design by Nalin Lusena and Samadara Mabulage. Vijith Nuwan will be the stage manager, assisted by Nalin Lusena.
