A week-long gastronomic tour of Mexico is on offer at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo to mark the first-ever celebrations of Mexico’s National Day in Sri Lanka.

The Embassy of Mexico in India and the Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Sri Lanka, are facilitating the promotion of the Mexican food festival at The Kingsbury. The Mexican food festival will feature celebrity Mexican Chef Gabriela RuizLugo from the 3rd–11th September at The Kingsbury.

Chef Gariela, owner of restaurant Gourmet MX in the Mexican state of Tabasco, was specially flown down to Sri Lanka and will be cooking up the hottest Mexican chillies, glazed with the most refined Agave juices at The Grill, Sky Lounge and The Kings to tickle the tastebuds for a true taste of Mexico like never before.

The Honarary Consul General to Mexico Mohan Pandithage reveals that Mexico has recently launched a National Policy to Foster Gastronomy by the name of “Ven a Comer” (Come to Eat), which will take the flavours of Mexico worldwide to promote its natural and cultural wealth. In November 2010, UNESCO singled out traditional Mexican cuisine as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Pandithage said that he was keen that Sri Lankans too get an opportunity to taste the amazing flavours that Mexico had to offer.

To mark the 206th National Day of Mexico, H.E. Ms. Melba Pría, Ambassador of Mexico to India and non-resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka, will travel to Colombo on 7th September. Earlier this year, Ambassador Pría presented her Letters of Credence to President Maithripala Sirisena.
