-

A Degree from a top UK University is the prized accolade for many students of Higher Education (HE) in Sri Lanka, though the cost can be very high and out of reach. However, there is a more affordable alternative that many are not aware of.

France is the world’s third most chosen destination of international students enrolled in HE, because it is of a high quality and certain cities bear a far less cost of living.

The French Ministry of HE contributes almost 95% of the tuition fees in State universities, including for all foreign students admitted in post Secondary institutions, in any subject.

There are great opportunities to learn French in Sri Lanka for HE and further. The Universities of Kelaniya, Peradeniya, Sri Jayawardenapura, Jaffna, and Ruhuna offer their undergraduates the opportunity to learn French and discover French Literature and Civilization. Undergraduates interested in obtaining a Special Degree in French can do so in a 4-year course at the University of Kelaniya.

Another great opportunity to learn French is provided by the network of Alliances Françaises in Sri Lanka, in Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and Matara/ Galle. The added value of these local structures is that, they prepare their students for the internationally recognized French Language Diplomas, DELF and DALF

In addition to undergraduate public universities programmes, France offers over 700 HE programmes, mainly at Master’s Level, from private institutions. Fully taught in English in the fields of Engineering, Business Studies and Creative Arts.

French institutions are well ranked in the various university classifications such as the Times HE Guide. Pierre and Marie Curie University of Paris, ranked 3rd in the country, also boasts the largest Scientific and Medical complex. International students make up 20% of the 30,000 full-time students.
