UCL offers a stepping stone to top ranked Engineering Degrees at Monash University

-

From February this year, Universal College Lanka (UCL) launched the Monash University Foundation Year ( MUFY) and Monash Diploma programmes to allow students a unique opportunity to further their education in the Engineering stream for undergraduate studies.

Being accessible programmes, they offer a conveniently placed stepping stone which upon completion guarantees entry into the 2nd year at Monash University, in Australia or Malaysia. UCL programmes are structured to offer an academic bridge for students to progress to completing an Engineering Deg ree at Monash University; all while being conveniently located in the picturesque capital of Sri Lanka - Sri Jayawardenapura (Rajagiriya).

The results of the MUFY programmes thus far have been exemplary. The 1st semester results speak for themselves as more than half of UCL students enrolled in the MUFY programme have received distinctions or above in their respective subjects. Being launched in 2015, it is a firm indication of the high standard in teaching and quality of programmes offered while providing students with a smooth transition academically and culturally to the environment of an Australian University.

Being true to UCL’s vision of “Forging Partnerships and Shaping Futures”, the MUFY programme offers the best education in the market through unique partnerships and unmatched quality. Complimenting this statement, the programme is endorsed by Monash University, which has topped all other Australian universities in the Engineering and Technology streams, as ranked by Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings for 2015/16.

Monash University has an impressive track record in the Engineering and Technology categories, being known for ground breaking research and design – namely for the innovation of the car seat belt – which has improved the safety of vehicles exponentially, and also clean water and advances in medical equipment.

As a result Monash is among the Top 1% of the World Universities, while Monash Engineering and Technology category is ranked in the top 50 in the world, making it the highest ranked University in Australia in this category. In addition, Monash is a member of the “Group of Eight Universities” (Go8), an alliance of the top 8 universities, in Australia. Students who graduate from Group of Eight Universities stand a better chance of finding full- time employment sooner, receive higher salaries and are most likely to move on to post graduate studies in Australian universities.

The academic level of the MUFY programme is equal to G.C.E. A/L; and can be completed over 2 semesters. However, students have the option to extend the duration of study to three semesters if they wish, so that they will have a chance to retake individual modules or improve the overall score. This can be accomplished in a single year.

A brainchild of Monash academics, the MUFY programme readily accommodates a wide range of Engineering undergraduate degrees allowing students to explore the field that suits them the most. There are 9 degrees on offer, which include Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer Systems, Aerospace, Environmental, Materials, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Mining and Software Engineering, allowing for a convenient starting point for students who wish to follow these degrees in Australia or Malaysia.
