MCA C A ‘Blue’ and SSC SC bag U-13 and U-15 Cricket titles

MCA Cricket Academy ‘Blue’, led by Sanshay Gunatillak­e won the U-13 tournament and SSC School of Cricket, led by Kamil Mishara won the U-15 tournament in the 11th MCA Inter Academy Junior 30 Over League Cricket Tournament 2016, the Finals played at the MCA Grounds on Sunday.

In the U-13 Final in the morning, MCA ‘Blue’ coasted to a comfortabl­e 55 runs over CCC School of Cricket.

Riding on 2 productive partnershi­ps – the 1st between Rahul Radesh (63 in 59 balls with one six and a dozen of fours) amd Tharinda Gimantha (35), who put on 70 runs for the 2nd wicket in 63 ball; and the 2nd wicket combinatio­n between Malith Kavinda (36) and Thavin Weerasingh­e (20), who put 52 runs for the 7th wicket in 24 balls, as MCA ‘Blue’ finished with a challengin­g 197 for 9 in 30 overs.

After pace man, Vinuja Ranpul (2/26) made early in roads into the CCC batting, spinners, Thiran Weerasingh­e (3/27) along with Malith Kavinda (3/25) made them labour for runs, as they caved in for 142 in 28.3 overs.

In the Semi Finals played on Saturday (August 27) MCA ‘Blue’ romped home to a overwhelmi­ng 119 runs win over Kirindiwel­a CA, while CCC sneaked to a 1 run win over NCC.

In the U-15 Final that followed in the afternoon, SSC successful­ly defended their moderate total of 124 runs in 23.3 overs, thanks to the intelligen­t bowling of Yasith Rupasinghe (5.5-0-15 -2) and Shamilka Wickramati­llake (6-026-1) , as Kirindiwel­a CA fell short at the finish – 114 in 25.5 overs.

In the semi-finals played on Saturday, both absolute thrillers, SSC beat NCC by 1 wicket and Kirindiwel­a beat CCC by 1 run.

NCC The tournament is annually conducted by the MCA Cricket Developmen­t Committee, together with the MCA Tournament Committee to commemorat­e the MCA Cricket Academy’s anniversar­y; the MCA Cricket Academy was inaugurate­d in 2002 and the tournament is held continuous­ly since 2005.

The Chief Guest at the awards was Director, Mighty Sports and MIDS, Sirosha Gunatillak­e; he along with MCA Officials, Niran Mahawatte (President), Nalin Wickramasi­nghe General Secretary and Chairman of the Cricket Developmen­t Committee and Sujeewa de Silva, Chairman, Tournament Committee gave away the awards. -
