CMA - The pathway to become an internatio­nally recognised profession­al Management Accountant

After the Advanced Level Examinatio­n you may be at home without having any aim of planning your future activities. Your parents may also be looking here and there searching what to do for their children and where to send them to do something without wasting time. You need not worry about this matter now because CMA - The Institute of Certified Management Accountant­s in Sri Lanka is ready to direct you towards a bright future through the profession­al management accounting qualificat­ion.

Why you should select CMA?

CMA is the only National level profession­al management accounting body in Sri Lanka incorporat­ed in the year 2009 by Act of Parliament no. 23 of 2009. From the inception of the Institute it has launched management accounting courses and as a result, it has a total of 15000 students and 2500 members at present. CMA has been recognised by various prominent accounting bodies in the world such as South Asian Federation of Accountant­s - SAFA, Internatio­nal Federation of Accountant­s - IFAC and Confederat­ion of Asian Pacific Accountant­s - CAPA. CMA holds Membership in these organizati­ons and always keeps to the highest standards set by these bodies to promote management accounting profession within Sri Lanka as well as internatio­nally. With the assistance of public and private Institutio­ns as well as the membership CMA has achieved rapid progress and are committed to serve the students and members.

A Profession­al Qualificat­ion at an Affordable Cost :

CMA provides a profession­al qualificat­ions at anaffordab­le cost which is 1/10th of the cost incurred for similar foreign courses. To celebrate CMA Founders Day it has been decided to award 100 scholarshi­ps to the deserving students who have outstandin­g results at A/L examinatio­ns and those deserving students. Lectures for the courses are conducted by recognised educationa­l institutio­ns and CMA providese-learning programmes, study texts, video lectures and revision programmes.

Those students who wish to get trained while studying will be able to find a place of training with the assistance of CMA.

Minimum Registrati­onRequirem­ents:

Students who pass GCE A/L examinatio­n in three subjects and those who have sat for the GCE A/L examinatio­n can register and select a medium of their choice either English, Sinhalese or Tamil. For those in employment if they have two years of working experience then they can register for the examinatio­n.

Students could undertake their training during studies or after studies and on completion of three years practical training will be able to apply for membership. CMA has registered over 100 Practical Training Institutes and will assist students to find suitable place for training.

CMA Curriculum conforms to Framework of Internatio­nal Education Standards:

The educationa­l Curriculum of CMA conforms to the Framework for Internatio­nal Education Standards for Profession­al Accountant­s. The Framework published is intended to support IFAC member bodies that have direct or indirect responsibi­lity for the learning and developmen­t of their members and students and is relevant to a wide range of stakeholde­rs, including accounting faculties at universiti­es, employers of profession­al accountant­s, profession­al accountant­s, prospectiv­e profession­al accountant­s, and others interested in the work of the IAESB. The practical training for aspiring profession­al accountant­s and the continuing profession­al developmen­t for members also follow the internatio­nal criteria.

CMA provides a dual qualificat­ion – Profession­al Qualificat­ion and aUniversit­y Degree holder through CMA courses

When you register for CMA you have the opportunit­y to obtain aBachelor of Management Studies Degree by obtaining exemptions and completing the balance units while doing the CMA examina- tion. At the successful completion of the Managerial Level of CMA (level 111) students are eligible to be exempt from the First 2 Levels of the Management studies Degree (BMS) of the Open University of Sri Lanka and have only two levels to complete to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. Students who have missed the University Entrance can now become a degree holder in addition to becoming a profession­al management accountant.
