Aiming to reach the top
Bandaranayake MMV, Veyangoda, a school with a history of over 75 years, will take the field at the forthcoming schools cricket season with a target of a promotion to Division II of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket tournament.
This all-round outfit will be in action comprising of five 5th year players with a batting line running down upto No. 8. Though the Siyane Korale side can’t boast of national players these keen and hard-working lads are sure to pose a lot of problems to the opposing sides with a bowling attack of three medium pace bowlers who are capable of moving the ball both ways supported by an excellent spin attack. Two right arm off spinners, two left arm leg spinners along with a right arm leg spinner backed by an agile bunch of fielders will combine to give the Bandaranayake cricketers a good chance to fulfill their dream of playing in the higher division next year.
Malindu Manabarana , a 5th year player who leads the side speaking to the Education Times said that last year they failed to find a slot to the higher division because they made lot of mistakes in the vital matches and they have learnt a lot from last year and this year he is sure to give a better performance in the coming season. The skipper looking confident said that most of the players who played at the last big match is available this season and he said that a talented bunch of freshers are sure to show their capabilities on their selections.
Malindu went on to say that his bowling side is capable of curtailing any strong batting line-up below 150 and his experienced batters are capable of building match winning totals. Coached by K.C. Perera and Isuru Chinthaka as Coach and Asst. Coach respectively and Chinthaka, a former Vidyaloka cricketer said that this school will be a side to be reckoned with the talent available in the senior side as well as the in the junior sides.
