The Department of Economics at the University of Colombo Celebrates UN-WTO Tourism Day- 2016 in Colombo from 24th to - 27th of September 2016

University’s Study Programmes (Masters, Postgradua­te, Executive and Diploma Programmes) are conducted together with Sri Lanka Tourism. They now celebrate this year’s theme of “Tourism for All - Promoting Universal Accessibil­ity” with the participat­ion of the key stakeholde­rs of the tourism industry of Sri Lanka.

Major objectives of UN- WTO Tourism Day Celebratio­n of this year are to make a valuable contributi­on to Sri Lanka Tourism Developmen­t. They expect to organize ( 1) Tourism Leaders’ Summit- 2016 (as it was in 2015) to create a constructi­ve dialogue among the key industry- stakeholde­rs to design new innovative strategies to take Sri Lanka Tourism by 2020 as one of the most sought after destinatio­ns in global tourism. Participat­ion of internatio­nal experts are expected to integrate with this industry dialogue ( 2) Internatio­nal Conference on “Integratin­g and Networking the evidence- based research for sustainabl­e Tourism Developmen­t to make tourism benefit all.

They expect to invite prominent researcher­s/academics/industry experts from different regions of the world to this internatio­nal conference through their academ- ic and profession­al partnershi­ps. (3) Tourism Day-Walk in Colombo on “Rekindling Sri Lanka Tourism for all” in line with the UN-WTO Theme, ( 4) Poster Competitio­n among differentl­y abled community on “Envisionin­g tourism through unseen visual”. (5) Quiz Competitio­n for School Children.

They expect over 1500 participan­ts for the grand event including diplomatic missions, inbound tourists, cooperate sector, policy makers, academic & researcher­s, volunteers & representa­tives from NGO/ INGOs with students of their Master, Postgradua­te, Exe c u t ive, Diploma and Certificat­e Programmes.
