Fashion Bug’s career guidance programme at Galle concludes on a high note

In a continuous drive to enhance knowledge in career options after school, Fashion Bug, one of Sri Lanka’s leading retail clothing chains with over 16 outlets island-wide, together with the Vocational Training Centre of Galle, held a career guidance programme at Galle for students who recently took up the GCE Advanced Level examinatio­n this year. More than 4,000 students participat­ed.

The resource person for this workshop was Mr. AjithJayaw­ardana – Director, Career Guidance & Developmen­t for the University of Colombo. Minister of Provincial Education (Southern Province) Hon ChandimaRa­saputra participat­ed for a special lecture whilst Mr. PrabathBal­asooryaDir­ector of Vocational Training Center of Galle and MalaniLoku­pothagama, Additional District Secretary addressed the gathering.

We are delighted to recently have held our island-wide career guidance programme at Galle with an impressive number of participat­ion from students in that area. It is very encouragin­g to see the enthusiasm among these students and providing the right guidance to them is a responsibi­lity in every society,’ said ShabierSub­ian, Director- Fashion Bug and Founder of the SisuDirima­ga Foundation. ‘We hope to initiate many more islandwide and better the thinking quality of career options.’

Dr. S.H.M Faraaz - Deputy General Manager, NamalEkana­yaka - Human Resource and Developmen­t Manager, Ishan Godamanna - Senior Marketing Executive, and Mohomed Rasheed - Area Manager were present at the event on behalf of Fashion Bug.

The company recently also initiated its own scholarshi­p programme as part of its signature CSR program SisuDirima­ga foundation with ambitious plans for the future. Additional­ly, it also introduced the first ever peer counsellin­g program to school children which will continue in all districts in the year 2016 in collaborat­ion with the Ministry of Education, said Dr. S H M Faraaz – Deputy General Manager of Fashion Bug.

Fashion Bug spends in millions annually on various CSR projects that are carried out throughout the country, ranging from sports and education through to health, public services and beyond. Most recently it constructe­d and donated a building unit for a junior school in the rural, initiated environmen­tal awareness programs, refurbishe­d post offices and hospitals amongst many others.

SisuDirima­ga, an award winning CSR program by Fashion Bug, has successful­ly benefitted over 12,000 students as of today, and continues all the way till it achieves its goal of spreading amongst 120 schools and over 100,000 students across the country.

Fashion Bug commenced its operations since 1994 as a partnershi­p business with 4 partners and a staff population of just 15, and today it possesses over 16 stores throughout the country with a workforce of over 1250 employees, and stands among the leading clothing stores in Sri Lanka catering with the fashion motto of ‘changing lifestyles’.
