A new era in Education: The merger between The University of Wales and The University Trinity Saint David and Swansea Metropolitan University is set to further enhance the degree qualification and the already excellent student experience offered along with the potential for the creation of exciting new routes from further education into higher education.

This unified institution now merged under the historic 1828 Royal Charter of Trinity Saint David has been completed from a position of great strength, with both institutions being at the forefront of academic education and research, where both universities will together deliver clear, tangible benefits for learners, employers and industry.

It also allows the University of Wales to continue its mission and commitment to support the academic and economic life of their students through a host of benefits delivered by the provision of a relevant portfolio of programmes, the development of progression routes from entry level to doctoral studies, innovative teaching and applied research as well as the development of strategic partnerships with employers.

The top ranked qualifications of the University of Wales are delivered in Sri Lanka through their only local accredited representative, the Imperial institute of Higher Education that offers the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and the BSc (Hons) in Business Management fully validated by the University .

As the only University of Wales validated Institute in Sri Lanka, IIHE was subjected to the stringent QAA of the parent university and the UK QAA authority and was chosen due to their ability to deliver high quality standards that has today established a brand image among its stakeholders, particularly parents, students and employers.

The merger does not in any way affect the quality of the qualification .

New Students : Students who have been offered a place on a University of Wales course will be treated in the same way as all current and past students, and will have the opportunity to exit with a University of Wales award.

Current students : Students who are currently enrolled and studying towards a University of Wales award, the University of Wales will remain the degree awarding body for the duration of their studies. Students will continue to study the same course in their respective institutions, and on successful completion will be awarded a degree certificate bearing “The University of Wales” as the degree awarding body.

Alumni : Graduates will still retain the University of Wales award they received upon graduation and will continue to be valued members of the University of Wales Alumni Association. They will be a part of the thousands of alumni around the world who hold a University of Wales degree that has a strong legacy that is widely recognized and highly regarded by employ- ers worldwide. The value of this will not change.

Professor Medwin Hughes, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales said “We have formally started the process of creating a transformed University which will build upon the traditional strengths and values of both academic institutions. I am extremely pleased to be taking the University forward with this merger as it offers tremendous opportunities ahead for learners both nationally and globally”.

Through strong business plans and realistic aspirations of growth and with a clear and exciting strategic plan which places emphasis upon applied learning, strong academic disciplines and a clear commitment to innovation, enterprise and knowledge transfer, this connected university, is driving through structural and strategic change which is closely associated with industry, business and enterprise to encourage, support and developgraduates to take on the challenges of the evolving business landscape.
